Welcome to Gaia! ::

The newest play by Andrew Lloyd Webber, has been called many things. Yet what i want to know is what people think about the idea of it being a film.

When i went and saw the play i loved it but couldn't help but think that it would make a better film.

So what do people think? reply, comment, ague with me if you want, i would love to know what your ideas are.

I'm not sure, it would probably make a good film if it was done well but when plays are made into films people often end up with films that either stray far from the roginal scirpt or come across as stilled and over played because they were designed for the stage, particular when you add in the musical element
i think that
A) everyone thats like "OH BLAH BLAH BLAH thats not how it should have gone raoul shouldnt be a drunkard meg shouldnt be a hooker killer psycho byotch" isnt understanding that THE SAME WRITER WROTE BOTH MUSICALS. HE OBVIOUSLY THOUGHT THAT WAS HOW IT SHOULD GO.
B) i personally think its AMAZING heart heart heart heart heart
C) i think that if they were able to make the original phantom into an award winning magical amazing breathtaking movie, they HAVE to turn LND into one

I say no to this. I really want to know why he changed some of the characters so drastically. Raoul went from being a gentleman to being an abusive gambler who gambled away his entire fortune? Then Meg is basically a prostitute.

No thanks. I prefer the Phantom of the Opera, not Love Never Dies

I want it to be a film, but I don't feel like it will do very well if it was. I love it, despite it being like a terrible fan fiction in its plot. The music is awesome.

Definitely. Either it would have the same visual and vocal opulence of the 2004 film (which I would enjoy greatly), or it would fail to meet any kind of standard and descend into a maudlin, trashy mess (which I would also enjoy greatly).
I don't think it should be because I think a lot of fans who aren't into seeing stuff on broadway would be incredibly disappointing. I'm actually disappointed that it was written!

I completely agree with this. There was no reason for characters who were very human in their failures and virtues to suddenly become bad fanfiction fodder.

I disagree with this. I think LND fleshes out the characters very well.
Yes, Raoul has changed drastically, but for the past 10 years he has been living with a woman who is in love with another man, Raoul already knows deep down inside that Gustave may not be his, and that Christine is not over the Phantom... It makes sense he has became hardened and a drunk.

I have to say, I would LOVE a LND movie, but think it is very unlikely to happen, the show hasn't even opened on Broadway and it might never open, a film would be a huge risk when the show hasn't really gone mainstream yet.

I went and saw the show yesterday and I absolutely loved it but I honestly think it would be pretty sucky as a movie. There's something about seeing a stage production that just can't compare to film though I would like to be able to experience again and again whenever I please because I just LOVE The Phantom, no matter how ALW changed the characterisation heart
UM.
YES. ALL THE WAY YES.

I'd love to see Gerard Butler as the Phantom again... GAWSH he's ADORABLE <33

I wish I could've seen it on stage, or at least find a novel adaption SOMEWHERE... I can't believe Raoul just upped and left. jerk.
It should definitely be made into a film! It's an amazing continuation of another amazing musical! Of course it should be a movie, I just hope that they don't mess it up if they do end up making it a film.... sweatdrop
YES! FILM! NOW! PLEASE!
I'm sorry I'm sure youve heard this kinda rant before, but NONONONONONONONONONO. and plz NO.
It could be a good musical/movie if it had just been its own story, not something based off Phantom. Heck, I even like some songs.
Only good thing in it (opinion/spoiler)* SPOILER *is that Christine dies.
Apologies. I tried to be kinda polite.

I think that summed it up beautifully. I just saw the two showings in theaters for the US debute and fell in love with it much more than I imagined I would've. I don't think it should be made into a movie, the recording of the Melbourne production was far beyond what I think any movie could capture, it was beautifully portrayed, the sets were phenominal, and the casting was positively brilliant.

I agree with above statement about the characters playing out. I think it played very well into the story line, and I loved the way it turned out in the end.

As far as the critics reviews? Keep in mind that their reviews were based on the LONDON production, not the Melbourne. Critics have taken very well to the Melbourne production since it was rebuilt entirely from the ground up. That's why for the DVD release they sided with Melbourne's production. I saw some of the London production, and save for Ramin's brilliant adaptation on the Phantom, I hate to say the stage production was poorly executed, epseically compared to what PotO originally was on stage.

All I can say is, well done, Andrew Lloyd Webber, and the Melbourne cast!
