I say no to this. I really want to know why he changed some of the characters so drastically. Raoul went from being a gentleman to being an abusive gambler who gambled away his entire fortune? Then Meg is basically a prostitute.
No thanks. I prefer the Phantom of the Opera, not Love Never Dies
I completely agree with this. There was no reason for characters who were very human in their failures and virtues to suddenly become bad fanfiction fodder.
I disagree with this. I think LND fleshes out the characters
very well.
Yes, Raoul has changed drastically, but for the past 10 years he has been living with a woman who is in love with another man, Raoul already knows deep down inside that Gustave may not be his, and that Christine is not over the Phantom... It makes sense he has became hardened and a drunk.
I have to say, I would LOVE a LND movie, but think it is very unlikely to happen, the show hasn't even opened on Broadway and it might never open, a film would be a huge risk when the show hasn't really gone mainstream yet.
I think that summed it up beautifully. I just saw the two showings in theaters for the US debute and fell in love with it much more than I imagined I would've. I don't think it should be made into a movie, the recording of the Melbourne production was far beyond what I think any movie could capture, it was beautifully portrayed, the sets were phenominal, and the casting was positively brilliant.
I agree with above statement about the characters playing out. I think it played very well into the story line, and I loved the way it turned out in the end.
As far as the critics reviews? Keep in mind that their reviews were based on the LONDON production, not the Melbourne. Critics have taken very well to the Melbourne production since it was rebuilt entirely from the ground up. That's why for the DVD release they sided with Melbourne's production. I saw some of the London production, and save for Ramin's brilliant adaptation on the Phantom, I hate to say the stage production was poorly executed, epseically compared to what PotO originally was on stage.
All I can say is, well done, Andrew Lloyd Webber, and the Melbourne cast!
