Help Me Understand SOPA?

I know the fundamentals like the defenition, but what I don't understand is how exactly it will effect the Internet as a whole if the bill is allowed to pass. So far it sounds disappointing, but are their any benefits of this being taken into action? Can someone fully explain this to me, whether you are with or against it. I'm still slightly confused as to whether or not it will have a huge impact on how the internet and websites are run now in not just America but anywhere.

Um well, SOPA will take down online piracy by banning sites that deal with copyright infringement and online piracy.
Also, site owners like gaiaonline will have to pay some type of fee.

SOPA, in a nutshell, will basically enable DNS blocking and takedown.

That means BYE BYE, ANY WEBSITE WITH COPYRIGHTED CONTENT.
