ANONYMOUS IS NOT A BUNCH OF HACKERS. Gah... Why is this so hard to understand... .

Because they are. They hacked over a dozen sites (mostly government) when Megaupload was taken down. They hacked HBGary--a cybersecurity site--and wouldn't give passwords for the site to work until the company fired the man who ratted many of them out to the FBI.

...Did you not read the entire post?
Because when quoting somebody to question their logic, that's quite an ingenious thing to do.
And I was referring to the group in general, and if you read the entire post, you'd read that I mentioned that a small number of them do partake in hacking.

I read the whole thing. You also said that supporting one limb of anonymous was supporting the entire thing. you also said you didn't understand hacking.

Not that that's true, either.

By supporting everything Anonymous does, you are obligated to support the wrong things they do as well, and since anybody can call themselves Anonymous, you are obligated to support anybody. By supporting anybody under the name of Anon, you can easily be supporting a terrorist. Chain logic. Example? Lulzsec. They hacked people purely for lulz, and they later joined Anonymous. Since they hacked with no intention of doing good for anybody but their own humor, they are, in essence, terrorists. And should somebody support every limb of Anonymous, they support Lulzsec, and if they support Lulzsec, they support terrorists.

I said I don't understand SQL exactly, I understand what hacking is. Hacking is anything to do with computer programming to program infilitration. SQL is a very basic form of hacking in which a simple program is used to obtain information. Since the majority of these methods from the LOIC to SQL program are premade programs that children can use, that somebody else made, I would hardly call them hackers.

You may have read what I typed, however you clearly didn't understand it.

Another site will take its place. There will always be successors in protest of these pathetic laws. We all know this, and will be able to undermine the pathetic tactics of the corrupted system we call the government. If they wish to enslave us, we will act. Never give them a chance. Make them truly suffer the consequences of their actions. Even protestors have been getting that pathetic silencing treatment. If nobody fights back, then they have truly won. Make them pay, and show them that the internet is a nation of its own. If we have to start a hacking and DDoS war, so be it. We must rely on some enemies that are siding with us, and Anonymous is no exception. If we wish to stop this, we must all work together to tell them off about this.

On another note: I am only agreeing with Anonymous for now as long as the government is being stupid.

So... Do gaians just not actually research anything anymore? Do we really just read the forums for our news? -sigh-

Look, Megaupload's owner, Dotcom was found to be guilty of hacking, laundering, racketeering, piracy, promoting piracy, so on so on. He cost artists and companies millions, maybe BILLIONS of dollars, and paid people to host pirated content so that he got more downloads on his site! Plus, he was ALREADY wanted in Germany. Overall, 50 years was probably getting off easy thanks to good lawyers. The site being taken down also is completely unrelated to anything SOPA, there was a TWO YEAR INVESTIGATION, and they finally decided to act, and the country it was hosted within gave the FBI PERMITION to act, and it was fully lawful. Just because a bunch of horrible laws are in the senate and parliment that have to do with piracy doesn't mean everything the government does to fight piracy is, oh my, censoring.

ANONYMOUS IS NOT A BUNCH OF HACKERS. Gah... Why is this so hard to understand... Anonymous is an idea, a nation without a leader, without a name, without a face. And DDoS'ing isn't hacking, it's overloading servers by pinging multiple times and causing the site to crash. Ironically, it's a basic form of censoring by the public. The usual form of hacking is SQL, which I don't really understand, but basically it's breaking in and stealing important information, often times, individuals names, personal info, FAMILIES, social security numbers, phone numbers, and all that other stuff the site keeps track of. Next off, nobody runs the show, and for every good thing they do, there is something bad. Do not blindly follow Anonymous, unless you want to follow what the true meaning of Anonymous is there to fight! Corruption. And supporting every limb of Anonymous means you support corruption. Anonymous may be Legion, but that legion is behind many masks. And nobody knows who is truly behind the mask in the next youtube video. Hacking the FBI for Megaupload being taken down was one of their faults, on the other hand, Operation Darknet a few years ago was probably one of their best operations. And my oh my, Operation Darknet had to do with taking down sites. Does that make them horrible people for taking down sites? What if I said the sites were child pornography sites? Not everything on the Internet should belong, and Megaupload is an example, it served no purpose but 99% piracy, 1% legit business.

If Anonymous never forgets, don't forget who Anonymous is. And educate yourselves before making a decision on everything the government does.

I agree with everything you say, except the part about the idea of anonymous. The idea of anonymous was and is to have the ability to remain anonymous on the internet. Groups like whyweprotest, and more recently anonops turned it into a political movement.

Also SQL injections involve injecting code into the database so it feeds out the information stored in it. Its very simple, and not even close to as elite as most of these people think anonymous is.

Ah yes, true, probably should of mentioned that Anonymous's obvious reason for existance is total anonymity >.> thanks lol.

Also, ahh, wow, I wouldn't even call that hacking. Seems the only time hacking is involved is when they turn the front page of a website into their logo with some text under it.

Thats also via SQL injection, and its definitely hacking, just not very skillful hacking as everyone thinks they do.

The odds are stacked against Megaupload's return, as it stands. What's more is that by forcing Megaupload's hosts to delete the data, these scumbags and their scumbag attorneys are trying to destroy the evidence that Megaupload was running a legitimate service, thus destroying its chances to defend itself. Guilty until proven innocent and all. Ars Technica has written an article that calls bullshit on this.

I hated MegaUploads so i could care less. i miss tv links

Rainbow Lover

MegaUpload was as popular as it was because 1) It's been around for a long time. 2) They basically pay people to pirate which is why it became so extremely popular. Any pirate that wants to make real money sharing used to use MegaUpload. 3) It made it extremely easy to pirate.

I'm not pointing out anything that isn't dead obvious to anyone that can form a logical argument about MegaUpload. Reasons it will never come back 1) The executive was arrested for other charges besides copyright, the site was used for illegal activities. 2) If they some how in like millions of signed petitions come back, it will function like Fileserve and Filesonic does. If you signed that petition so you can pirate, well too bad for you. 3) If a new site is made, it's going to have to start from the bottom up to get popularity. We have sites like that. Rapidshare hasn't been taken down, Wupload is just as good if not better than MegaUpload, not as many people know about it, and it's established. Rather than being a ******** retard and saying "bring MU back" use a file sharing site that actually is already there and works just as well!

I'm not a rocket scientist, if ANYTHING I said above was news to you, you need to shut the ******** up because you know nothing about this subject.
MegaUpload was a great site, it will be missed, but don't turn into a complete idiot and throw away common sense because of it.

If Anonymous never forgets, don't forget who Anonymous is. And educate yourselves before making a decision on everything the government does.

You haven't done your research yourself, so do not criticize others before looking at yourself. Megaupload cost, the estimated cost of lost profit MegaUpload caused is roughly $500 million, based on a BBC article. If you follow stories you would find these things out, that's only half of a billion, even doubling the estimate it would only be one billion, no billions. So by saying maybe billions you show your lack of understanding of the charges pressed against this man. So please, look into things more before you state facts to give a more accurate message that people can draw from.

Also, for those who wish to know, again if you dig a bit, there is a site that was put up a matter of hours after MegaUpload was shut down to try to replace it, though unfortunately not to long after that the site was shut down itself. It was a good rallying attempt to bring it back, the site getting well over 20k facebook likes before it was closed. However, there are numerous sites out there that provide what MegaUpload provided if you know where and how to look.

Also, on Anonymous, the true Anonymous, you know them when you see them. They are many things, they are not just an idea, they're a single being that is meant for the Lulz but oh so much more then that. the DDOsing of servers and shutting them down, that was their warning. Jan 1 2012 they made Sony back down from the SOPA bill among other companies when they hacked their servers to deliver a video and a message. Three operations were declared to be in effect on that day, they've already started to carry out, as you can see if you follow the whole situation and keep up to date on the news articles. If you'd like a link I can PM it to you, it was from a gaming site that displayed the video, the message and what all happened. It would appear they are in this fight for the long run. They hide in anonymity, not out of fear of being discovered but because people fear the unknown and a man is most honest when hidden behind a mask. Many people have gone after those in the highest positions in the group and there have been repercussions of such acts. Such as what happened to Aaron Barr when he turned in some names, former CEO of HBGary Federal.

Legitimate or not, there's "innocent" data to be saved. EFF has gone to the courts to save it. Then again, even before Megaupload went down, it had problems with music and movie studios deleting content they actually didn't have rights to, such as open source computer programmes.

This is pretty much repeating what I already said, so I hope you're reading what I say too.

Terrorist: (noun:) a person, usually a member of a group, who uses or advocates terrorism.

2.a person who terrorizes or frightens others.

Terrorism: (noun)
1. the use of violence and threats to intimidate or coerce, especially for political purposes.
2. the state of fear and submission produced by terrorism or terrorization.
3. a terroristic method of governing or of resisting a government.

going by these definitions, It's very easy to say all sections of anonymous are terrorists. Though they may not be using radical methods to express their point, they are still using fear tactics. Though fear tactics are not illegal (in most cases) it's still an underhanded way of getting your views heard.

I'm not saying terrorism is a bad thing. There are a lot of good people who could be considered terrorists. For example, Americans during the Revolutionary War can be considered terrorists for what they did to the British.

I make this point to establish a fact. What's considered terrorism is subjective because what one man views as terrorism another man does not.

However, what seems apparent to me is that Anonymous is our generations largest sect of cyber terrorists.
What makes them so effective is you don't have to be in the know to be anonymous. Anonymous to me is a voice for the faceless masses. When one voice is swallowed in the din, anonymous finds it and adds it to the thousands of others just like it.
Their existence is almost poetic in a way.
