Welcome to Gaia! ::

So, I was reading GivesMeHope.com and I started wondering, what makes people happy? Not just those little moments of happiness, but in every way. I'm curious to know, especially since from the amount of time I've spent on the internet, I've seen an innumerable amount of negativity, and even with my IRL friends as well.
Surely, finding the good in things is not only better, but will make you feel better as well?
People like complaining.

The problem is that happy people are seen as being idiots. You can't just going around enjoying the spring flowers, 4 leaf clovers, and finding quarters without people thinking you're a little silly. People are more accepting of negative people.

Myself, I'm happy sitting on the couch with the one i love, watching the stupid movie I've seen 50 times, and eating a cheeseburger and mac & cheese. I'm happy walking to work the way that has the pretty walnut trees and apple tree (where the flowers are blooming right now) and doing push ups a little but better then I used to.

there is a whole field called positive psychology that looks at what makes people happy. Things like wisdom and knowledge, courage, humanity, justice, temperance, and transcendence.

I'm actually working on a paper right now that talks about how mindfulness increases well-being.

you can also take some test on authentichappiness.com that will look what makes you happy.

What makes me happy?

Misery. I'm dead serious. Thinking about dismal situations from the smallest to the largest always makes me happy. I don't know why. neutral
My cat makes me happy. It's comforting to know that there is a being in my household that will accept my quirks, not be too dependant or demanding and at the end of a hard day will be willing to cuddle up with me in bed.

Also, Paper Mario.
Not being judged put down, and being respected makes me happy. Seeing people being good and respectful and patient with me and others I feel happy. Feeling I have a purpose, I'm ok, and my life helping me feel more joy, I feel happy. Having a relationship with a loving higher power, I feel happy. Feeling safe and ok to share my feelings and mind, I feel happy.

A good meal. A good rub down. A good orgasm (some are just mediocre). A good book.

Usually in that order.

If it's only a few I might be left merely satisfied. Except perhaps for a good book.

Also my kitteh, Carnage. Although sometimes he worries me. I so get what someone said earlier about quirks, and independency being great, but pets are heartbreakers too.

Oh boy, I know what you mean. It's so upsetting when something happens to them.. The cat I live with now got some awful disease and her stomach bulged out like she was going to explode. The vet was even freaked out, but luckily she had a successful operation. Despite those things, I find the small amount of time you have with them is totally worth the effort.
Family, friends, pets, nature, and spontaneous happymaking events. Don't read that as sex, it honestly wasn't meant that way XD.
I'm happiest when I've finished a project, I think. Not an assigned essay or school research, but something that I started and finished for myself. The feeling of independence and accomplishment do add up to happiness, in my book.

Also, the smell of grass on the morning after a thunderstorm is wonderful, and being outside during that time isn't so much of a happy experience as a peaceful time. heart
Nothing can make me happy, and I think this goes for everyone: you get happy when you get what you want but it's in our very nature to always want more. The happiness doesn't last long and when we don't get what we wanted we actually get sad and depressed for a while.

Yeah, there's almost nothing you can do. I'm planning on getting a Rotty, and these are animals that need constant attention and care (no problem on my part) but it's like no matter what, they are going to end up with hip dysplasia and there eyes are going to go once they get older. It's just setting up for sadness, but being able to let them experience great lives in their youthful ripe days and having a great pal will be worth the torment of letting them go.

Talking about pets in this what makes you happy thread is making me sad. D:

Wanting does not lead to happiness, that is true. But things like intristic motivation, creativity, challenge, and novelty. Do make people happy. The research is out there that says people can become happier.

I think that depends on the person. I don't like things to be challenging, I'm much more happier when they are easy =P I feel more stressed out after I completed something challenging so it's not a happy thing for me. As for creativity, maybe, though I don't know if I'm "happy" per say, it's just something I find relaxing..though sometimes even that is tough when I have to figure out light and shadow and proportions and oh boy lol.
