(OK so this paper was rushed and I'm not feeling to well at the moment so don't be malicious)
I find that today ,people in our western society are obsessed with both sex for a number of reasons one of these reasons could be found in the catholic church others can be the media and also in our very nature.
The catholic religion is obsessed with sex. You may argue that it isn't but if that was so then why would there be so many rules for when to do it and who can do it. Ancient cultures like the Babylonians, greeks, and norse all had the own gods/goddesses of fertility and love whom they worshiped but they did this because sex was just a part of life to them as much as eating and breathing.
Quote:
"In other ancient religions that pre-date Christianity THOUSANDS of years, there were Gods and Goddesses that were worshiped and revered for their sexuality and sensuality. Gods and goddesses that had shrines and temples built in their honor." http://socyberty.com/religion/worshiping-ancient-sex-gods-and-goddesses/

Which brings me back to the topic: because the Catholic Church puts all these restrictions on sex , people do what is in their nature and disobey. If you are over 18 take a look at this video
Now how many of you that were under 18 clicked the link?

Another thing that I've noticed is that we worry more about sex then we do with violence.
(This is not a trick this time) If you are over 18 take a look at This Page .
now what caught your attension the most of that trailer? If it was "We shall make this last night together something to remeber" your not alone 9 out of 10 people I surveyed gave me the same answer. This brings me to my question why is it that with all that violence does it seem that , that one suggestion of sex is the most prominent part of the trailer and in general why sex is so fassinating to us as a race.

All you need is love.

But sadly:

McCartney & Lennon
Money can't buy me love.

Thus we strive for the tangible manifestation of what we want. It is the phenomenal expression of our desires and proof of successes.
In my experience, the Catholic religion is not obsessed with sex. People are just obsessed with the notion that the catholic religion is obsessed with sex. And many of the Church's loudest and most uptight members like to overplay the Church's guidelines on sex, while ignoring the more important stuff about loving your neighbor, living humbly, and helping the outcast.

If anything, the Church has made even more clear its position on violence and human rights. Of course, fanatics within the Church tend to ignore that stuff and focus on nitpicking their neighbors, bashing gays, liberals, and Muslims, while critics will accuse it of hating women, breeding child molesters, and force-feeding dogma and superstition to their flock.

As for the trailer, I guess I'm the 10th person, because I saw the violence part and forgot about the "night to remember" thing until I re-read your post. If we are indeed more obsessed with sex than violence, why was most of the video about violence, as well as most fantasy videos and video games?

If you look at the news, TV shows, movies, video games and so on, I'd say that if anything, we're equally obsessed with sex and violence. If you're writing a paper, I think you need to do more research and find some more scientific evidence before you finish it.

As for the rabbit, I'm still trying to figure out what sort of lewd act he was performing with that carrot that people under 18 shouldn't be allowed to see.

You raise a good point, but yourforgeting abou tthose of us that don't have any real religious views (not atheist just not religious enought) i just wanted to point out a couple of t things with you post.
1) the reason that we see more violence in games then we do sex is becuase the critics that label the games for market see Sex as being less approite to view then killing someone.
2) the thing with teh rabbit was a lure to see how many people would click it, not the video it's self but the idea behind the link.

Personally i would love to see more sex happen in real life. Why should i be told not to look or enjoy the feel of a woman when we are on this Earth for the very purpose of havving more of us. The reason it is not allowed is becuase that is the way it was in the past, and today we try to see our selves as being "better" then that. But we deny out true natures when we do that.

That's just how i see it.

Absence of theism is athiesm.

1) The visceral appeal is also better suited to the medium.
2) I figured as much and didn't click.

Our true natures are terrible.

I couldn't have said it better
I think sex is the highest amount of pleasure one can get in life. It's a natural chemistry that no amount of religion can truely deny. I'm sure some nuns think about what they're missing at times, same with monks too. Something so natural, how could they not? Why else would there be sex scandels in the church?
Sex sells.
Sex without love is fruitless. Been their, done that. Not that I did not have a good time, but it was empty and painful emotionally.

Sex with love is when we open ourselves up to someone completely (does not really happen all the way, yet). Humans have probably always been ashamed of being imperfect. Hence sex ie. opening up all the way, as been viewed as a problem. Its exposing our not perfect ie. defective ie. shameful ie. lousy humanity. People are very afraid of that. And feel a lot of pain for that. Imo, most emotional pain comes from shame.

One person tries to keep another from opening up, cause they don't want to face those things/feelings. Hence the protection on sex. We are also complicated people, and sexuality is complicated. So we have device ever more controlling, abusive and suppressive behaviors to counter our eagerness to love. Also the keeping it away from kids. Parents are ashamed about what might happen. Some places in the world, let naked women walk around kids, with no ill effects.

Sex is never going to be simple, cause it is not. People are never going to be able to have appropriate sex without love. Love is complicated so its going to take a long time before we see things change.
Christianity in general sees sex as a filthy thing. I don't know where it started, but I feel that isn't true. Our species depends on sex. Sex relieves stress and tension, especially if you have done it before. Sex is something every creature must do to survive. It's our "duty" if you will. Society has put up boundaries, which can be for the better when you think of teen parenting and STDs or STIs or what every they're called! I think that having one partner is SMART, but not necessary.
The role? I'd call it a foundation.
I'm getting my Freud on here, but it really seems everything is driven by sex. It's definitely not always obvious, but our sexual desires seem to affect a loooot of things.
I guess because people are all horny?
In an abstract way, the role of sex in society is 'Predominance'.
We see half-naked girls on covers, I can't look at a news stand without seeing a magazine that shamelessly advertises 'sex secrets' ect., and you constantly see commercials on TV that advertise things like 'natural male enhancement' (I/E Gross BS I don't want to see whenever I decide to watch TV). And you can't watch a contemporary show or read a book nowadays without some sort of sexual reference.
WalMart even sells things of sexual nature under the label of 'family planning'.
It's everywhere. It's a social drug. We're obsessed with it, and we're shameless.
This is why I think 'hermit' is a viable career for me.

In other words, the Beatles --while amazing musicians-- are only human.
