I hate to correct you, but depression is considered an epidemic. The definition of an epidemic is described as "an outbreak of disease or anything resembling a disease which attacks and affects many individuals or a population simultaneously". A synonym for "disease" is "illness". While I do agree that depression is not officially TERMED an illness or a disease, but rather a disorder, I also think that it would be strange of anyone to name this disorder "major depressive disorder/illness/disease". Besides this, I have heard many people, including psychologists, say that depression is an illness. Also, take into account that age-wise, nature's way of removing unwanted genes is highly ineffective.
If you hate to correct me then do not try to do so without due cause.

As for this thread, frankly, only 3.4% of those with major depression commit suicide. Suicide has many reasons, from culture to religion to stress to financial problems to mental health issues. 60% of the world's suicides have had some form of mental health disorder. That's only 10% higher than a half and half situation. So even if yu wanted to say that those with mental disorders are removing themselves from the gene pool, consider that 3.4% is not a large percentage of those with depression, and consider that the other 40% of those who commit suicide are either undiagnosed or don't have mental health issues.
No person in a state of mental wellbeing commits suicide.

As for self injury, in what way does it remove someone from the gene pool intentionally, if it is not intended to kill? Self injury causes a certain high which relieves the emotional pressure the person is suffering. The pain is then classified as feeling "good". It then becomes an addiction which, like all other addictions, are difficult to stop.
That was indeed always an absurd and unnecessary argument.

Also, may I say that you are entirely rude and insensitive for saying those things. You're saying that those who commit suicide and self injure are not worthy of living because there is something wrong with them and that they were genetically destined to kill themselves. As someone who suffers from major depression and overcame self injury, I am entirely offended.
You probably shouldn't be, it was most likely a troll-thread anyway.
