Wow... Someone else who recognizes smell on their partner. (I thought I was the only one that sniffed people)
I use scent attraction for finding friends as well as avoiding potentially bad mates or untrustworthy friends. I've noticed that the untrustworthy people in my life always have a smell that I hate. Like the two guys that I was raped by; both of their scents made me want to throw up... With the current guy that I like it's as though I immediately perk up whenever I smell him. Although some people can pass the sniff test and still be bad sadly... Good thing I've never run into anyone I hate who passes the sniff test! (nevermind there was one)
I will never date anyone who doesn't pass the sniff test first.
About two years ago, I was dating a boy that was very good to me, but I could not stand the way he smelled and it caused me to not want to be close to him. Now, I'm dating another boy, who is equally good to me. The only difference is, I LOVE the way he smells and I always want to be near him. I didn't realize that scent had such a profound effect on a couple's relationship until now. Very interesting.
I think it's just because his scent reminds me of him, and the warm fuzzies and good memories.

=^^= <3

Not gonna lie: If I'm pursuing someone in a relationship and they smell good I'm going to try and get into their pants. Well, at least in their arms for some serious cuddling sessions. I just can't date someone who I don't like how they smell. I'm too much of a physical person (hugging, cuddling, laying on top off, etc.) too not notice how someone smells.

Mmm. I remember this one guy I was dating who smelled like rain and some sort of old kind of cologne. Then this guy who strangely smelled like... a new car. It was great. OH, and this girl who smelled like bread. Gosh. She was great too. I'm not even joking.

This is an interesting topic.

I've always noticed a person's scent disregard of gender. Ironically, before I started dating my boyfriend I didn't really like his smell, it was a bit too sweet. But, now I love it. Sometimes I'll swear I smelled it and miss him. I also have a pack of incense he gave me, which also reminds me of him.
Being bisexual I've also dated women. Their scents are only a tad bit different if there's even a difference at all. They wear so MUCH perfume though! I don't usually mind, perfume smells nice. But, you really want to know the scent of your partner, something you can really link back to being theirs.
I've also noticed that some of my exs' smelled awful. One was sickly sweet, another was just gross. I of course realized I wasn't attracted to these men squat and had very little in common with them.
I think scent/pheromones play a huge role in the science of attraction. I sort of want more studies to be performed in regard to sexual preference based on scent. Will a homosexual woman find the scent of other woman more attractive than men in a blind study? I'd be really interesting to find out.

lol yeah I sometimes notice girl's smells. Usually I don't pay much attention to anyone's scent because I prefer my boyfriend's. I know that when I'm close to ovulating I practically want to attack him when I smell his scent. It could just be a whiff from his shirt lol I know I like the scents of some of my friends, they don't really wear perfume so it's not hard to smell their natural fragrance. Otherwise I mainly only notice overt smells or the scent of someone physically close to me or walking past. I can't stand overuse of perfumes (and colognes that don't seem similar to my boyfriend's or grandfather's scents. The smell of my poppop is very nostalgic ^_^). I don't wear perfumes very much myself because it can make me feel sick (that and I have allergies and asthma), I'm very picky with the scents I like.

xD Same here. I notice some of my friend's scents and they're ok. Nothing that'd make me wanna pouce like my guy's. At school though, there are so many scents. I get sort of anatgonistic if I catch a wiff of somone who smells similar to my family, boyfriend, or super close friends. It's quite funny how scents work.

If you have the acuity, here's a good review article regarding this topic

My girlfriend loves the way that I smell, and isn't fond of when I wear cologne. That's how much she likes my scent. I never quite understood this, but hey, I'm not gonna complain. I never thought I smelled like anything, but I'll take it.

EDIT: I don't really notice smell though, unless it's perfume or something. There's only one person's smell I've ever actually noticed.
Also, I'm curious, how do you guys think cologne/perfume/etc play a role in this?

Hmm, well I do know that smell is strongly connected to emotional memory, so oftentimes at least part of smell in attraction is about how it relates to a scent associated with memories. I know when I smell a cologne similar to my grandfather's i think of him because I have almost nothing but good memories. I imagine that cologne and perfume play a role in whether or not the smells are similar or not to scents that an individual would find attractive as a natural smell from a person as well as whether those scents are associated with smells that trigger memories. For instance, if you had a horrible relationship with an alcoholic father then you'll probably hate anything that smells like him. And vice versa.

But what if it's just you know... a cologne. Nothing specific to it, no memories. She just has a preference to my scent.
I'm starting to see that I look into things in a different way than a lot of people on here do.
I was attracted to my boyfriend's scent before I was attracted to him as a person. So... there's that.
