Welcome to Gaia! ::

It's interesting to see that the same neurotransmitters released during mother-child bonding is released in instances of romantic love and even when bonding with pets. Anyone else have something interesting about how this section of the human psychology is interconnected?
The best solution is always the simplest... ?

Those same neurotransmitters are present when taking a bath or whilst smelling the delicious aroma of freshly baked bread. They can also be detected when you stub your toe, have an embarrassing medical consultation or whenever a man in China falls down stairs.

I was specifically talking about Oxytocin, but neurotransmitters are required for all brain activity, really. I don't believe that this particular neurotransmitter is involved with those activities, as it seems to only appear in attachment situations.
Attachment=/=love
Oxytocin has a physiological effect that humans cannot consciously control. If an event occurs in which oxytocin should be released, the only thing to stop it is some sort of hormonal imbalance.
People can choose who they love (said in a general way). Or, I guess you could say, they choose whether to act on those feelings or not.
Personally, I dislike the idea that attachments are based solely on a physiological reaction to a neurotransmitter.
