Then what do we do - demonstrate? Conceptualize? Predict?

Theorize.

That may be a necessary condition for a field to be a science, but hardly a sufficient one - speculative fiction theorizes too, for example.

Just go read "Guns, Germs & Steel" and than you will understand.

Basically it is the world's history summed up into 1 book about why different parts of the world have more than other parts, and that the only reason one country is poor and another is rich is because of available resources/weather and blah blah blah.

But it's really good, everyone should read it, opens up your eyes to real truth.

My statement was that science does not seek to prove things, mathematics does...

Here is a pretty good summary, for anyone reading who may not be sure sure how much goes in to developing a theory. The end result is, fundamentally, theory, and not proof.

@ Marvek - I am highly suspicious of anything that is the "real truth".

Oh, you meant 'theory' as in the scientific method. My bad.

Me too.
Sociology is a science. Psychology is the mind of a human. Sociology is the mind of HUMANS. Theyre similar, yet bump heads alot. You cant throw one out without the other going too.

I wasn't aware humans had a collective mind; I think you mean sociology is how human minds behave in the presence of other human minds, which is basically social psychology. I'm beginning to think sociology is to psychology as chemistry is to physics i.e. sociology is an expanded branch of psychology.
Yes, depending on what context you put into it.

And you can't just say that if someone acts this way, then they feel this way.
People feel different things when they act a certain way.

So, I guess the answer to your question is No.

Yes. Sociology is a "soft" science. It is a relatively recent field that hopes to understand human group behaviour (including both mainstream and counter-culture/deviance) in as calculable way as possible. Some Sociological research is based on polls, which with large enough samples is relevant, and other research is based on observation.

It is not useful for the study of individual behavour. That is what Psychology is. It is, however, useful for looking at trends...

Anything that you have to collect data on, research, make some hypothesis, or comparisons I consider some kind of science.
