In an age where technology plays a major role within societies and globalization, do you believe that it is creating cultural uniformity, or through technologies and globalization do you feel that there is a greater diversity of culture emerging.

Examples for greater diversity, one could argue you see more ethnic foods available in supermarkets in western societies. (very watered down though), MacDonald's accommodating to different cultuers (does not serve beef in India, serves red wine with hamburgers in Spain, etc.)

i think you're right about how technology is integral to our understanding of globalization, but i don't think it's an either/or issue when it comes to uniformity & diversity. i think some aspects of globalization are uniform while others are diverse. sorry if that's a cop-out?

like, western patriarchal culture (ugh, that again?) is heavily invested in exporting a certain uniform product (ie, western patriarchy) in order to survive & spread/dominate. technology allows for this to happen (& in fact is one of the byproducts?) & in that sense helps create a uniform global culture.

the diversity you cited is pretty much just multiculturalism - like, oh, if we put teriyaki sauce on that hamburger we can call it a tokyo slider & charge more, or something.
Culture is still very much diversified. When you take into account factors like language, location, and tradition. I don't see very much changing in terms of cultures, however technology does give us the means to easily communicate, but language is still a huge barrier. For example, how often do you find yourself talking to someone from India or Japan? Maybe you'll start to see less diversity if a global language is ever created or adopted.

Esperanto has been created, along with other international auxiliary languages.
If you think about it, if it wasn't for cultural diversity, the japanese media of manga and so forth would not have spread across the world and influenced us (and possibly influenced the making of this site).
I'm all for a diverse culture, but I guess some people may feel confused as to where they stand. For example, someone with dual nationality.

I'd say it's diversified, but allowing us to become more unified so far as social groups, interests and political causes go; you can connect with people you couldn't say, one hundred years ago.

That's also because there's a lot more people.

True, but speed/ease of communication does play into that.

There's lots of reasons really.

I know, what I originally posted was my personal first reason as to why, the first that came to mind.

What? It creates uniformity, which threatens our existence as a species. Think about it, boys and girls. Us developed countries are on one internet. This one internet is now rated and tallied to accommodate advertisers and make money.
The problem with that goes like this: When you search for something on the internet you click the first few results you're given. When you click on a search result Google goes, "Add a point to that result's popularity and move it up the list." When that happens other people search for the same thing or something similar, and they are shown the same thing you were. They see the same thing you saw, they learn the same thing you learned, etc. Eventually no one's going to see another side of what they searched, which is now pushed back behind hundreds of other results telling you the same unvarying tidbit of information.
For example, something tame: You search "music" and you'll get big record name suggestions, which means you're not going to hear the independent musician with an original sound. Given less options, there's a higher probability that you and Mary Sue from ********, Egypt now have your taste in music in common. In informative context this is dangerous, because then everyone knows the same truths and no one explores other possibilities, and we intellectually then socially fizzle out. It's a variety of thoughts and ideas that encourages freethinking and creativity, and allows for positive growth and progression.

It was much better before the internet came along and obscure musicians were impossible to find.
