The best decision, perhaps. It's a sad life, being cheese.
Indeed and there are some things you cannot do or say. For example, if you ever tried to mimic kuja's old repetitive post about cutting yourself for attention people will just be grossed out by you.
I'm not familiar with that post, but I imagine that's true. How does that relate to cheese though?
Kuja had a tendency to say, "sometimes I cut myself for attention" for quite awhile last year. Think about the phrase cut the cheese and you will get it.

I wonder where Kuja is now?
Perhaps he bled too much and they are not letting him play with razors any more or he is upset that a lamer troll (the guy from Stockton) is more successful at getting attention than he is.

He should learn from the best.

As delicious as it is that is true.

It has it's merits.

That's putting things mildly. Isn't the truth the most perfect and the best?

I see no problem with it.
contemporary art i find really does reflect our current society. in most cases it is disconnected, and doesn't relate to the viewer. a good example of how art in general reflects society would be the surge of artistic movements after and during the second world war.

i can't say i'm too fond of contemporary art at the moment, but i'm seeing the shift in art as it begins to reflect the human condition - and i am impressed, and sometimes overwhelmed at the surge of emotion people are putting out there.

the artistic society is at battle with itself - artists have to choose between being honest with themselves and making money or being picked up by galleries in most cases. they aren't freely allowed to reflect on what is going on around them - or have never learned to (but that would get me into art schools not being taught by real teachers *cough*)

i forget your other questions now lol

Agreed.
Interesting question. I recommend posting in the Art Discussion forum for answers too. (Also I'm drinking at the moment, so I apologise if my thoughts are random. Hopefully something makes sense. emotion_awesome )

Do you think art reflects society, or do you think society reflects its art?

Both!

Art can reflect society by highlighting the importance and reliance of visual communication within the society. Art helps with communicating messages and ideas. Art can also provide entertainment!

Society can reflect art through the use of culturally relevant symbols found in that society. I think the term is visual culture. For example, a symbol in one area may indicate danger to one society; but to a different society, the symbol bears no cultural meaning and there is no relevance to that society.

The second point creates an interesting phenomenon... Like, what does a cutely drawn floppy-disc symbol mean to you on a computer program? Save, right? You know this because your society grew up with that technology. But what about societies who are new to computers? They wouldn't know what a floppy-disc is. The message would not be communicated to their society. It is your society's control of art and meaning which has caused this phenomenon.

What makes you not love it?

I enjoy art. emotion_donotwant

How does art make you act or feel in society?

Art has a strong impact on me. Dragon Age for example (games are art to me : P ) is a role-playing game and highlights the idea of being able to interact with everyone. This message has made me extremely aware of my presence in the world. Therefore if I see a stray dog while bussing home, I understand I could explore the area and rescue the stray dog.

Ultimately, art brings me new experiences, navigates me in a culture, betters me as a person and I develop feelings of happiness when exposed to art I understand or like. :3

Art functions works in various ways. It can explain things in society, communicate ideas, be used for entertainment, be used in rituals, etc.
Society and art have a feedback loop that isn't really one way or another. You need society to make art, and you need art in society.
I have a powerpoint of a presentation I compiled for my Sociology club. We did a content analysis, but you can also measure art sociologically through ethnographies, surveys, and other methods of research.

what do you mean by "art," exactly?
Interesting question, and very important to note. As sociologists, we have to understand that definitions of art change by context. It was difficult for me to ultimately define art for demonstrative purposes. The literature on the Sociology of Art is challenging in that sense because of the fluid perimeters that help societies define art.

When ppl say they are doing arts degrees I feel sorry for them, I think that says a lot about my views.

So i'm guessing you are not an advocate of the arts, yes? What made you this way? if you do not use art or imagery to learn about society and culture, then what else do you rely on? Sorry for bombarding you with such questions. sweatdrop

I believe ppls worth is determined by the sum of what they do, Ie ppl are only important if they are useful. The arts and their production to me is only useful for ppl to express their emotions if they aren't very good communicators. Now if we judged a whole society on the content produced by the poor communicators I think that would be terribly restrictive.
Art helps define culture and subcultures. We have something as seemingly unartistic as industrial design, which is the design of commodities like ipads and kitchen appliances. But art in this sense is important. Take Apple products for example. The industrial designers use their art skills to create a product that fulfills a need. Here art is both expressive and productive (if we are going to gauge the art's worth by its economic value).
There are many many other examples as well, which may or may not have a monetary value.
I am not saying your beliefs are wrong, you can belief what you want. But take in consideration the many uses art has. Not just recreational painting, sculpture, music, etc.
