What's the difference between Sent, and Outbox?

I have a few messages that have been in my outbox for quite a while. Does this mean the other person never received them?

PMs stay in the Outbox until they are read by the person you sent them to. Once read, they move to the Sentbox.

when you send a message it goes to your outbox.
once that person reads the message it goes to your sent box.

Pretty much.
I think they do eventually delete after a while, just not sure what the time frame is. sweatdrop I want to say a month or so.
