It was updated for a few reasons.
Mainly for account security, as scripters were taking advantage
of older coding and those holes are better fixed by updating
to a brand new style of coding rather than patching them.
It was also updated to better connect it to Towns 2
so that it feels like one big world, rather than several small ones.
Many users have voiced their opinions, many similar to your own,
and the admin have heard and are looking at ways to keep the features
that users are attached to, such as the option to choose from a selection of servers.
