I have a question about what's okay to rp in regards to PTSD

One of my OCs was physically abused in her past. I tried asking a friend. Even they weren't sure if the portrayal of such a flashback was acceptable or if it would set off alarms. Is it strictly forbidden rp-wise? I don't approve of abuse, but this is a part of her story and background. Stories sometimes have not nice things in them. >.<; The reason I'd like the flashback is because with that kind of trauma, I want to show how it sticks with a person. This would be the most relevant to the situation she finds herself in (with an angry comrade).

You need to portray the condition delicately and carefully. It's difficult to avoid anybody raising issue about it, but if it's tastefully done, I think it's okay. Many movies and novels do use PTSD as a central theme or even just a character modifier. The condition is a fact of life and it doesn't really go away if people tiptoed around it. It's just up to you to give it a fair or even legitimate showing.

However, it would be useful to get a moderator's point of view about it.
