The Gaia Avatar Simulator is down, but you can access the Gaia Avatar Creator (different owner/maker) here. You have to download it, but it's well worth it.

There is an Avatar Simulator site (I forgot the address, sorry) that lets you "create" an avatar. Using the Gaia AvSim, you can test out new hairstyles and outfits without buying them.
