I'm no expert on the website's design, but I am pretty sure that it was derived from a generic forum script, like many of what we see on other free forums. It becomes a bit difficult to alter one section of the script when it accesses a class, as I'm sure the way this is structured. When posting an image, the tags are lines of code that access this script directly, called BBCode. I'm afraid deleting a function of the programming is nearly impossible to do without rearranging the entire language. Since Gaia did not invent this language, it is unlikely they will be able to alter it.
As someone getting their college degree in Computer Science I'm pretty sure it's not as hard as re-writing the language.

in fact I'm pretty sure it's a lot simpler. They already know how to segment sections of the site so user accounts can't access them without having first gone through certain tutorials or first buying certain things.

Similar concept applies here.

Chocolate Pope
Net censorship is supposed to be reasonable and follows under nondiscrimination
This is begging to sound more like a forum grudge

As a former GD reg, I feel there comfortable suggesting this idea.

If they're posting what is considered child porn there then I say this is pretty damn reasonable.

That's all in the "user" area of the skeleton though. The main body still has the IMG tag to access the html directly. Anything inside [] in the post box is accessed from a class deeply rooted in the code itself. However, things like smilies, are an added "user" class.
I would definitely visit GD more often if that solution was used.

LOVE IT
whitelisting sounds much more reasonable.
I mean think about it.

Dont like. If someone wanted to create a nice discussion topic with a banner and all, they'd be incapable of doing so. I think it honestly needs to be moderated more, but for that to happen we need to report these things more.

_________________________
There are no "nice discussion topics" in the GD. People who want to actually have a discussion go to the ED. I agree with the OP.

You obviously dont look or come at really bad times. I've been part of many, many good discussions in the GD. The ED on the other hand, tends to ignore a lot of discussions.

Seriously? Every time I go there I see pointless 3 sentence posts made at random and usually involve some sort of "BAAAAWWWWWW!"

But I agree, this is a great idea.
There comes a time where "censorship" is not censorship, but protection. Passing the boundaries of multiple levels of law is where the line should be.

If they are posting things like porn, then it must be stopped. If it means some form of image disabling, then I am all for it. Such a thing MUST be stopped.

I'm sorry, but really, complaining about baaaaaaaawwwwwwwwwwwwing in SF? Seems a little hypocritical neutral

As was pointed out, if this sort of thing happens, all that will ensue is that the GeeDee will spill out and the trolls and such will just flock to other forums, thereby causing this same exact thing to happen to each and every forum that they feel the need to slowly kill. After GeeDee goes, it will only be a matter of time until they infect the CeeBee and GeeCeeDee enough to kill those two forums. All that will be left are the slow-moving forums and SF. Given that you guys won't have so much to baw about, this forum will slow down, too

Slowly, over time, unless a better solution is found to bring back all the people that left Gaia because of the changes to the GeeDee, Gaia will slowly, but surely, start to fail. Sure, we may get new anime kids and such, like how the site originally started up, but Gaia needs donations and purchases of GC to keep this sort of thing going. Lack of users=lack of funds=lack of website

Plus, on the topic of CP~

You see, the thing is, everyone is crying about gaia should do something to prevent CP from being posted here in the GeeDee
Well, I mean, if they are going to start cracking down on Gaia because of its users posting CP, then they will have to start cracking down on any and every site that has ever had CP posted on it before
Which, I can positively think, includes a large amount of sites on the internet

And someone, somewhere, will find a legal way to stop them from cracking down on sites, not because the person wants CP to be able to be posted, but because it will be removing rights from citizens in some way shape or form

People that post CP will get tracked down and arrested, it is not the fault of the site that they choose to post said CP on, so why would Gaia as a whole have to suffer for some people who are going to end up getting arrested, anyway
Read the whole thread up until this point and I gotta say, history doesn't stand up to the explanations that I'm seeing. The head tilt about GD spammers invading other forums is just legit. There was a period of time where a certain group of somebodies (anybodies?) were upset about a particular item, and from there the GD went to hell, nearly taking a couple of other prominent forums with it. The other forums recovered over time, and the GD never did. It's a magnet. Depolarize the magnet, and the s**t just flies all over the place. Would the other forums eventually recover? sure, over time. But for a long while we would all be covered in s**t.

I don't advocate appeasement, but really I feel like it is up to the GD to fix this. Other users have said it. Report, hit ignore, don't respond to spam topics, etc etc etc. I think the idea about removing the time limit on reporting is one worthy of further exploration. I also think that it is time for GD mods to organize a massive purge, similar to ones that have taken place in the past. If the mods step up their vigilance to Constant for a couple weeks, totally hammering all seen violations and whatnot, things might look up. It would require massive amounts of user help, but it worked for the CB for awhile.

Not to sound like a dumb oldbie, but I remember what the GD used to be like. Sure it was elitist and full of BS, but it was at least respectable. CB was the cesspool where one could go to pitch fits and scream, and then GD was the sane alternative. It will never be like that again, but I agree wholeheartedly that it needs improvement.

And a quick note on the whole, punish all for the deeds of many thing, that's not fair in my opinion. Yes they got rid of naming rooms in cards, but does anyone play cards anymore? I mean, I used to play all the time because it was like a decent live chat. Now it's a crapshoot because you never know what you're going to find in the rooms. I don't think that taking away images for all is a good idea.

Also there is precedent on the child porn thing. A bunch of kids were arrested recently in the US for texting nude photos of themselves to each other.

edit: stop saying that people will report and all will be well. That s**t will not happen as smoothly as you insist it will.

This is a moderation problem.
Not every GDer needs to be punished for other's stupid mistakes.

The GD needs to bring mods to the GD that actually do their jobs.
Not like Soundblast, though.
He moves threads that don't need to be moved.
neutral
Yes. I'm a victim of Soundblast.
I actually had a discussion in my thread.
a;sdfads
Anyway.
Better mods looking over the forum = Better kept forum.
The GD will come after you hardcore if we can't post pictures.
A lot of our ACTUAL discussion comes with pictures.

I think you're argument is what people call a slippery slope argument. confused
Again, just about any other forum wouldn't just sit back and not do anything. People would report and s**t would get done. It would be annoying for a while then it would go away. So there goes the idea that this would have to be done to every other forum.

Speaking in terms of physics, depolarizing a magnet would merely drop the attracted garbage. There's no spring action with magnets losing magnetic power.

Either way, the fact that we would recover is the important part. We'd recover, and GD would be free of the porn and gore.

Regardless of people reporting and 'getting s**t done' doesn't mean that the trolls would stop. They do eventually get banned in the GeeDee, albeit it taking a little longer than normal for most other forums. The trolls would just keep coming back and repeating the cycle until all of Gaia was image-free

As long as there is someone out there that will react in some way, shape or form, there will always be someone to troll them.
i'm from the GD and I agree with you 100%
it would get rid of a lot of the stupid people who post there

which would be 99.9% of GDers so thats a good thing!

except...it won't be as fun but oh well
