Moonshine All Over Me
Atreides Zero
Well considering the fact that "because the GD will attack other forums" is like 99% of the reasons given to counteract good ideas to fix the Gd problem at some point we have to realize that we either are actually prepared to deal with that, or that we need to prepare to deal with that because we can't just leave the Gd in it's current state.
when there is one reason, and one reason alone standing between the administration and 20+ good ideas then we need to come up with counter measures to that reason.
And as I've stated before, will state again, and will always stand by is that we are more prepared to handle the GD trying to start this than we wish to believe.
The GD spills out at it is, and we still manage to abide. There are still plenty of people reporting. And if the mods are given notice of this change taking place they will be ready. The GD has problems because no one reports. Yes some of the fourms outside of the Gd have problems (like the Cb and art discussion forum) but unlike the GD it isn't because they aren't having reports sent in it's because there are two many. And since reports can be categorized during the GD s**t storm that MAY occur the mods can target the trolls and spam and then come back to deal with the spam.
I'm just tired of idea after idea being thrown out for the stupid reason that GD might throw a fit. It's like we are letting trolls take over the site because most people are too afraid of them pitching a fit if we change anything.
You make it sound like the GD would organize a take over.
They aren't going to "attack" other forums. They're going to spam it out until people get so bored of only seeing spam in their once-favorite forums that they give up on reporting.
This is EXACTLY the way the GD went. I watched it, as it fell through the cracks.
Spammers, trolls, whores, and flamers hopped in, the discussions were pushed to the back, and people stopped bothering to report after a while because it's become pointless.
Even after one thread gets deleted, there's three that have been created to take it's place.
I don't know about you, but I would rather have it contained in a hell hole of a forum than spilling out where we're nearly forced to look at it or leave forums.
Even when mods ban someone, they just keep coming back.
Ask any LDer, GDer, or EDer alive. In the LD, we got this astronaughty kid who keeps popping up.
In the GD, we have god knows how many trolls per day that won't leave.
In the ED, we're overrun. Especially since they added that "cool topics" thing at the top of forums, with a link to the ED.
Even the AMC gets trolled to hell on occasion.
My point is, disabling picture posting in the GD would doom us all to a forum-based website without actual forums.
Just endless pages of spam, spam, spam and more spam.

We are both saying the same thing, in different words. The way you make it sounds is that if we take away the GD from them they will spread and make the other forums hell until we give them back what they want. Which is pretty much the same as taking over since it would teach them that any time they want something they just need to troll other forums until the admins cave to their requests. By your logic, if they troll the other forums successfully they will have taken over the site.
And don't preach to me about the loss of the GD. Started in 03, left the GD in 07 not because I was defeated and didn't feel like reporting anymore but because between a girlfriend and college I didn't have time for Gaia period. And even though the majority of users don't report in the GD anymore, many still do. It got to a point for me where I didn't even post in the GD anymore, I was spending every minute reporting.
As for trolls just coming back, I've already thought up solutions and suggested them but they all got shot down because people were afraid it would lead to the GD trolling other forums.
There are solutions but they all seem to get shot down for some ridiculous idea that the trolls will migrate to other forums and NO ONE WILL EVER TRY TO STOP THEM OR BE ABLE TO STOP THEM.
