And I noticed on the first page people saying that "the GD has too many trolls and such to have nice discussion" or something of that nature. I'd just like to inform this person, this is not true.
The GD has many valid discussions, you just have to actually look. And not around 3PM or so when all the middle school kids are getting home. During the daytime, from 8AM to 1PM, or during lunch hour.

Plus, the ED is actually becoming more a troll-ridden dumpster of a forum than the GD. Just take a look, read some of the points, look at sources and arguments. You'll know exactly what I mean. neutral

This wouldn't work at all. People would just flood the other forums. It's the exact same thing that would happen if the GD itself were totally deleted.

As the op said "the threat of the GD revolting on other forums is a baseless fear due to the level of proper reporting that gets done there.". People in other forums don't have a problem reporting s**t like that. It wouldn't be a problem.

I have to say, they have gotten away with some pretty hardcore s**t before, and it's getting old. I remember starting out in this site and being attracted to this GD because, as gaia described it, it was a place for "light discussion and debate threads". Sounded like my cup of tea, but boy was I surprised when I clicked a thread and instead of seeing a "light discussion" got a huge picture of a boner/spread eagle nude girl shoved in my face.

I doubt putting restraints would stop them, but wouldn't it be nice if the GD actually had debates and light discussion and not just "LULZ I TTLY GAVE MY GF A j**z FACIAL AHAHAHAHHA"?

@moonshine all over me - I'm sorry but folks should be able to go into the forum at any point in the day and be able to enjoy it. 8am to 1pm for you might be the middle of the night for someone else and they'll probably be trying to sleep. Just because it is good some of the time doesn't mean that it shouldn't be brought up to being good all or 95% of the time.

I agree with the general idea of the thread. Strip out the ability to post pictures there. Seriously. Somethin needs to be done with it.

And like others have said, anytime the GD decides to spew itself in other threads it gets taken care of quickly (except maybe the CB) because the other forums don't put up with their crap.

And Gaia without forums is nothing at all. Over two thirds of the website's users, most very active cash consumers, would leave, and Gaia would go bankrupt in five days, tops.

About a hundred trolls emerge, n***s galore are released, and one or two people refuse to go along with it and report it.
Now, spread this out into the other forums, especially the already spammed-to-death art forum, and Gaia's going to be getting a lot of s**t from their users.

True that the other forums are better member-moderated, but that's probably only because there aren't craploads of threads to report. IMO it is a bad thing especially if the trolls decide to organize and spam threads so that the first 5 pages of every thread is all illegal pics.

Well considering the fact that "because the GD will attack other forums" is like 99% of the reasons given to counteract good ideas to fix the Gd problem at some point we have to realize that we either are actually prepared to deal with that, or that we need to prepare to deal with that because we can't just leave the Gd in it's current state.

when there is one reason, and one reason alone standing between the administration and 20+ good ideas then we need to come up with counter measures to that reason.

And as I've stated before, will state again, and will always stand by is that we are more prepared to handle the GD trying to start this than we wish to believe.

The GD spills out at it is, and we still manage to abide. There are still plenty of people reporting. And if the mods are given notice of this change taking place they will be ready. The GD has problems because no one reports. Yes some of the fourms outside of the Gd have problems (like the Cb and art discussion forum) but unlike the GD it isn't because they aren't having reports sent in it's because there are two many. And since reports can be categorized during the GD s**t storm that MAY occur the mods can target the trolls and spam and then come back to deal with the spam.

It wouldn't exactly solve the entire GD problem, but it's definitely a step in the right direction.

I still think you are greatly underestimating the power of members who want to see their forums clean. Time and time again members have organized groups to go out reporting. I think we should try it and see if the users step up and show us they are also tired of seeing the GD pitch fits and push the admins around.

Hell, I know a bunch of old mod-wannabes from back in my hey-day, if you deactivate the report timer on our accounts we'd clean the s**t out the forums and keep the forums reported until the GD learned throwing a fit isn't going to get them what they want.

So in the other forums only one or two people will not go along with it and report? That's what I call bull s**t on. You're just describing the attitude of the GD other forums wouldn't have that same mentality. Trolls pop up and people report. It would be annoying for a while but then it would pass.

And furthermore just dismissing a possible solution because "the GD might revolt" does nothing to solve the problem. I see threads about fixing the GD all the time, all end in "the Gd will revolt" with no possible solution suggested to avoid this. I think at this point we need to accept that no matter WHAT WE ATTEMPT the GD will probably revolt. So rather than let them run our lives, we should just buckle down, get ready for it, and hope for the best.
