Standing out in a crowd is easier

Yes, as much as I love the new shop art, I'm willing to admit that the girls body types have changed. Who cares? All of anime has real skinny chicks, so it's no different than normal. And I have to disagree with you on the less clothing comment. Look at Sasha and Vanessa. They've been completely covered up. And I like the new outfit for Ruby, it shows her off better. I always had the impression that she was a dowdy old woman. Now she looks her age.

Besides, all of the art changes have been made to reflect the reorganization of the stores, and the new theme associated with it. Well, I guess I really can't say new theme, since the themes have been present since the shops were created. With the new art, now you can actually get a feel of the shop keepers' personalities by looking through their store.

No they should NOT be ashamed just because YOU can't tollerate change, this is a rare ocassion so I am going to say suck it up and deal with it, their not changing it back.
As a self respecting artist, I would be ashamed of myself if I put out such disproportionate, effortless art, especially because it's so obvious.
As an example, take a gander at the quality of Vanessa's art. The shading and colours are well blended and smooth, her lines blend well to her form and don't pop off in a pixalated fashion off the background. Her body is not unhealthily thin, changed under the guise of 'age' and looks as anatomically correct as could be possible for such art.
In comparison to the pixilated line art of the rest, the painful, anorexic skinniness of Sasha and Moira(and hell, of Ruby), the simple cell shading and unblended colouring, it's obvious. The artist obviously took more time and effort and care with Vannessa, a single picture, than all the rest.
It makes the shops appear not only disjointed, but low quality, and in that, it's practically an insult.
Perhaps it's a little prima donna of me, but if that was my art, I would be demanding a pull back to give back either better quality, or a less disjointed look.

The artist has their own style, just because you don't appereciate another artists particular style doesn't meen that the artist should feel ashamed of their work.I can respect style. I can't respect a flagrant disregard for coherent quality(again, I point to Vannessa's art, in comparison with the others).

Nevertheless, I do have to say, I do not like the style whatsoever, especially what with the self confidence of young girls these days.
Presenting such unhealthy female figures that a girl will be looking at when they dress their avatar, just isn't right. Aren't we supposed to be negating the 'skinnier is better' lifestyle that has been in the media for so long now, to promote health awareness?
It's a slap in the face for the sensitive and impressionable.
Oragami Virgin is correct that there seems to be more effort in some NPCs' art than others. I also would like to see less contrast between the characters' outlines and the background. Thats nothing the blur tool in photoshop can't fix.
Well, don't you know that anorexic crack whores are the new 'HOMGBEWBSNSECKZ'?
cool
Gaia is just following the trends! Gosh! I mean, didn't you see Miss Universe (Australia)? talk2hand

I also find it ironic how people BAWWWWWW about BAWWWWWING. lol

SO~ I'm not a huge fan of the new art, but Gaia has really been going down the shitter, so I'm not that surprised. The shop organization is alright, and I think I'll like it more in a couple of weeks. But in all honesty, I really just don't care anymore. It's an internet site, and there's no reason to be emotionally invested. I mean, it's too bad, but it's the truth.
~I'm going to go read a book. Ahh, the wonders of reality...
I honestly can't stand the new art style. The women no longer look remotely pretty to me.

Of course, I've always prefered to draw women a bit heavier, I find that more attractive than someone that looks like you could snap them in half over your knee.

I don't see what was wrong with the way they looked before. I mean dear god Sasha looks anorexic. If they were going to work them over, couldn't they have atleast done differant body types instead of making them all stick thin?

QFT

They've actually covered up the girls a lot more, and some of them even got breast reductions. As for them being horribly skinny, THEY ARE CARTOONS. Get over it.

Eh I try not to complain that much, but I do agree the art is kinda bad.

They did a decent job with the guys but the girls don't look as good, but it's just their style now I guess. I hate they made them unnaturally skinny, but it's done now, so I doubt they'll change it sweatdrop

(lol if it was me drawing them I'd made them all fatties xP)

Sorry, I'm not one of those people who will "just get over it."

If you had an issue that you cared about, how would you feel if someone just told you that you were being stupid and to just "get over it"?

They are cartoons, but they are still TOO SKINNY. They were SKINNY before.

Who cares? OBVIOUSLY I DO since I posted this thread.

Eternal Raine
To the Sea! To the Sea!

I think Ruby's pretty. She's dressed up like an angel, so the "nightgown" is thematic.

The white gulls are crying...User Image

That is not a nightgown. That is a dress kind of like the Egyptian Linen dress we ourselves could wear.

I NOTICED she has Angelic Backwings!! GRRR!
You know what cracks me up?

Is that I see more complaints on the "fan service" of the females yet no one says a damn thing about the "fan service" of the boys. ;D Way too go Hypocrisy!

I feel the same way. It bothered me before that all the images were skinny-skinny (Like back when Gaia had little images up in the top bar). This is ridiculous. neutral

I have to agree that this making of the girls skinnier than they were is... (sigh) what is the word I want to use. Its bad enough that Hollywood and the designer clothing Industry wants all their actresses and models to be an unreasonably unhealthy thiness.

I would appreciate it if they redesigned the ladies and make them more acceptable. And SOMEBODY NEEDS TO BE FAT!! People come in all shapes and sizes.
