Welcome to Gaia! ::

Sometimes I just want to chill out with my friends, what people do right now is that they put "PRIVATE", "Friends Only", "Invites only" to their room names. This is effective ONLY for ethical players who respects other player's wishes but not those troublemakers. Yesterday I've encountered such a player where he just came in regardless of the tell tale sign and starts to flood the channel with gibberish junk. Even though I asked him to stop he still continue to do it and starts to curse until eventually he drove me and my friend off the room.

My Suggestion
1. Add an option to create a private password protected room. Players who wish to get their friends into the room can just send the password via PM.

2. Another option would be to grant the room creator admin powers. This will enable the person to kick and ban troublemakers from the room.

Hope these features will be added in the future.

If someone continues to spam in a room when you ask him to leave, take screenshots and report to a mod for harassment. Password protecting might be a good idea, but it poses problems in terms of moderation since obviously mods don't know all passwords. Also, it might be used for harassment of cyber, neither of which are good things or acceptable...Possibly a Friends Only room might work, but other than that there are limited possible solutions to an already extreme problem

EDIT: the kick feature may also pose problems if, perhaps, the original maker leaves and again harassment...unfortunately not all users are honest enough to trust with features like that sweatdrop

Yes reporting is good but it doesn't bring immediate solution. Me and my friends live in different timezones so we can't really hang out so much. That's why I'm really angry when someone just stepped in and spoil the game for us.

The mods don't need to remember the password, as players leave the created room disappears along with the password. As for "it might be used for harassment of cyber" I don't quite understand the statement, could you elaborate more?

Perhaps a reasonably high fee for private rooms so that harrassment would be reduced? Like...5k-15k? That way, it would be too much trouble for people to waste their gold like that if they attempt cyber and such without being caught. Could be good for people who actually want private games. A sacrifice of gold to have a more decent atmosphere among users you're playing with.

I mean, obviously if there are private rooms they will be made to either exclude specific people, or use it for cybering...obvious the peope cybering won't report, so that's one more case that goes unnoticed which leads to more and more violations which is, in short, a mod's pain in the a**. the fee thing might work, but that's the admins deal....

Yeah, I know it's up to the Admins, of course. I just seem to always think about gold sinks. That's all. xd

I believe what Keakealani meant was "harassment or cyber". If a room was password protected like that, or if users had the ability to kick others out, they could commit PG-13+ acts and either go on cybering freely with no threat of punishment by outside reporters, or if someone comes into the room who threatens to report them or something, all they would have to do is kick them and continue with their cybering.

In terms of harassment, one user could start insulting other users in a derogaotry fashion, creating "cliques" in which a group of users could bash on one other with again, no fear of punishment because no one can get in or anyone who isn't on their "list" gets kicked out.

Flaming, insulting others in such a fashion, basically promoting the harm of another individual, no matter who they are, is prohibited everywhere on Gaia, and this encompasses the fishing/casino chats as well. Until there are better systems and tools in place though, the best bet that you have, I would say, is to screenshot the proof of harassment or cyber and report it to an online moderator.
I don't agree with fee imposing as it is unfair to newer members who are financially challenged enough.

As for the kick function, it is originally made for keeping troublemakers out. If you joined a room and get kicked, then can just proceed to create your own public room or join other rooms. Just because some bad apples can't be trusted with the feature, the whole population of honest players should not be equally punished.

Edit: As for the cybering one... That I don't know cause people could easily do that outside gaia using messenger services xp
Why don't you save for a guild together and then just don't invite anyone else into it? tother people can look, but they won't be able to post.
Errr... I'm not yet in a guild so I don't know how things work. But, we go into multiplayer rooms for chats and play games together. Doesn't guilds defeat that purpose since its post based?
Hahahahahaaaa the thing is for spamming not a discusion thing
problem with kicking is
in fishing you have to choose bait
if your kicked after choosing your bait what happens
do you loose the bait, do you get it back
either way it could be abused

for the password protection, apart from stopping people who look for cybering
(that are not mods)
as a programmer myself i dont think it would be hard to give mod access regardless
of what the user set as password,

Though I would give mods the ability to enter secretly and not take up a slot.
(eg spectator mode)

Also considering it's Flash...the passwords maybe easy to crack.
