Splendid, right now. This thread is making for some interesting fun.

Hehe, yep. I have to admit, though, that I expected the first topic I found bashing the presence of the inverted pentagram to be from a Christian who didn't want anything non-Christian posted on the site. Not from a self-professed Wiccan who doesn't want her own religious symbol anywhere because it offends Christians.

But it doesn't offend Christians in her eyes, it offends her. Because we clearly can't use religious symbols for multiple religions in multiple ways, because obviously one religion has a monopoly on it.

I would understand if it was a copyrighted symbol, but the fact of the matter is, it's not.

How about you? I've seen you around but we haven't had a chance to talk.

I'm doing good. Pretty busy, but that's been fine so far. 3nodding

That's wonderful to hear. Hopefully things will calm down a bit over there, I like seeing your posts.

I am mostly offended by the fact that it is shown upside down. and I know by the perspective of your avi, it is not but from our perspective, the one that to me that I think matters, it is upside down.

So what if it is upside down (assuming for the moment that it is actually upside down)? An inverted pentagram is a completely legitimate religious symbol. Even assuming for a moment that we forget that Wicca has uses for the inverted pentagram, then certain brands of Satanism still uses the symbol. And my previous statement stands: if the inverted pentagram is really already associated with Satanism and cult murders, then a neutral use of the symbol on a massively popular website is hardly going to do harm.

Your robe should be golden, your robe should be perfect
Instead of this ragged concoction of thread
But may you be moved by its desperate beauty
To give us new life for we'd rather be dead
Then live in the squalor and shame of the slave
To the dance!
To the dance!

I believe Gaia is playing more towards the anime Fullmetal Alchemist (note: ALCHEMIST!), than it is any religion.
Gaia is not a religious site.
I don't see what there is to be offended by this particular item.
I just think they should have put more thought into it before putting out something that is "cool" because it's a symbol used in a for the moment popular anime.

Actually if you do your research you might learn that the upside down crucifix does not mean Santenist worshiper. For the longest time in the old days it had a completely different meaning.

which is a Christian symbol used to denote Peter and his crucifixtion . . . Peter was crucified upside down as he did not believe he was worthy enough to be crucified right side up like his Lord, Jesus . . So he asked to be crucified upside down.

As a reuslt, the Church has used the upside down cross (no corpus, so not a crucifix) to designate Peter, not Christ . . . the Pope's chair has an upside down cross engraved in it as a symbol reminidng one of Peter's humility and death.

Unlike an upside down crucifix, there is nothing satanic about an upside down cross. It is a very Christian symbol.
And it is the same with the pentical.

So why be offended?
Does anyone really know anything about non-denomonation Satanism?

Cretin is a rank for one who is outside the immediate district of complation.

Not an insult...

Please explain to me how keeping this item out of the MC would make anyone think more positively of the Pentacle. Seriously. Because according to your view, people already associate with Satan. By putting it on the website, we're going to have countless people using it completely outside of the realm of Satanism.
I am mostly offended by the fact that it is shown upside down. and I know by the perspective of your avi, it is not but from our perspective, the one that to me that I think matters, it is upside down.

Darling, the perspective of the avatar is supposed to represent your perspective. From the avatar's standpoint.

When you use a symbol in works, you write it in the fashion that looks correct from where you are viewing it at that point in time, yes?

This includes pentagrams. When you perform rituals using it, you write it facing up from where you're standing.

By that logic, yes, the pentagram is facing up.

If you're going by the fact that we can't see it facing "the right way" from your computer screen, then what of those that would be "offended" for it being turned the other way, because suddenly it's not facing the right way for the avatar, suggesting satanic magical workings?

Especially with the summoning tomes.

By that logic, I have just as much of a right to be offended as you. But I'm not. Why?

Because I don't give a s**t. It's pixels. It's unimportant and a waste of my time to be offended by pixels. If you don't want it, don't buy it with other little pixels.

Well, her argument as I understand it seems to be, "And the inverted pentagram symbol is viewed in association with Satan by some people (Christians) so Gaia shouldn't show it." It's possible that I'm not getting her argument (which would make me happy as the argument seems to make no sense at all) but that's how it seems to me.

And because it's Satanistic, i guess... xD
That's exactly why they shouldn't have it, because everyone equates it with Satan when Wicca and Paganism has no belief in Satan.

And I think all Christains and Catholics would be offended if a upside down Crucifix was a new item. So I think I have every right to be upset by this.

I'm a Catholic Christian--among other things-- and I don't really find it offensive rather it be Satanic or Wiccan. It's just a star, I mean kids draw it when coloring the sky and they're not trying to offend anyone!

If you look at the old woodcuts of protective circles against evil and malicious spirits and demons there tends to be the star in the middle and that was really before there was the Wiccan and Satanic religions.

Look at it this way, it's a bunch of pixels on a computer screen to make an avatar on a silly website a certain look. It wasn't meant to offend and if you look at it you're making a big deal out of nothing.

I don't see any media frenzy.

Just you and people staring at you as if you were batshit insane.
You do realize, that is if your a real pegan and not just a "OMG! I'M A PAGAN!", that the upside down pentical is not a pegan symbole but is, in fact, a demonic symbole. I can see you being upset if it was right side up, but it wasn't. Its upside down and therefor means something compleatly different.

Get your facts straight before screaming "INJUSTSTICE!" rolleyes

Because frankly, people are stupid. I do not want my religious symbol to be shown is a bad way. It upsets me.
Like I said before it has stronger meaning then just being from Full Metal Alchemist. Gaia should have put more thought in it before putting out an item that is part of what is now a popular anime.
Osaka The Knucklehead
Osa Osa chan says:

That's not the Pagan one dear, that's the Satanist one. There is a difference and many many pagans don't even let themselves thing of the two as alike.
Pentagram= Pagan
Pentacle= Satanism
So, if anything, Satanists should be the ones offend, not pagans. 3nodding I'm certainly not because I know it's just a item on a website and doesn't affect me or the Goddess.

WRONG

The Satanic pentagram is the inverted star (two points up) with a goat's head in the middle and surrounded by TWO concentric circles ... at each point, there are the Hebrew letters לויתן which spell out the word Leviathan.
Seeing as the Hex Soul Stealer pose does not meet ANY of that criteria ... It's not satanic.

i'd know this because i'm Catholic and went to a Catholic school.

....I used to be wiccan..
I don't find it at all offensive.

Because it also coincides with another religion, and it's using they're symbol, not yours, so shut up D:
I personally am not offended by it and if I was I would just ignore it. No need getting my panties in a knot over pixels.
