The parser really, really needs work. We've made several threads on it, one of which did get developer attention, then kind of stopped getting dev attention.



Can we please do something about it? Or if it's on the "pile of crap needed to be done" can we be given a position in queue?

This is the original thread that has an incomplete, but long list of problems the current parser faces.

This thread is my proposal for the spring cleaning event that more or less went ignored. It has the list from the first thread, plus extra bugs and suggested features.

Oh that cursed Smiley syndrome. It has me constantly putting a space between punctuation and parenthesis all over.

I tend to put

[i][/i]

between the parenthesis and the offending other character-be it an 8 or what have you.
It keeps there from having to be a space and it doesn't show up. It is a bit of a nuisance-not that bad though.

In computer science, a parser is something that makes sense of input.

In this case, he means the bit of code that transforms text into formatting and emoticons. :) becoming smile for example.

I also don't like the mysterious vertical scroll bar that seems to happen sometimes in posts. That annoys the crap out of me.

That is unrelated to the parser and is a result of the emotes.

Probably because people just read the OP and have no clue what any of that means.

Protip: want to increase the chances of up-votes? Make an OP that clearly explains what you're talking about so that anyone will understand what you mean. Don't use lingo that is not part of the average person's vocabulary, and if you do explain what said lingo means/what it is.
(I had no clue what the OP was talking about until I read posts made by other users)
