It's unfortunate that somebody had to be a jerk to you, and people shouldn't act that way, but... I also can't see any reason that I am entitled to a list of a user's equipped items. Sure it might be nice to know, but if worse comes to worst you always have the option of going through items in Tektek by color or release date to find out what it is. If somebody doesn't want to share, even if they are being a jerk, I don't think Gaia should make them accept the public equipped list feature. It's okay for people to turn features off. I turn aquariums off, the people with aquariums aren't complaining that I'm never grabbing their booty.

What you call "entitled", I call "using the site properly". I don't care what glitch some nerfherder is using, but it does piss me off that I should be expected to spend hours or days going out of my way to find an item because of the option to disable the feature. While some of this is due to Gaia's horrid labeling system on the MP, the users aren't helping, and if they can't come up with a better excuse for having it disabled than they just do it to piss other people off, then I think the feature should be changed so that it can't be disabled. When it comes to aquariums or things like the footer or whatever, there's actually a legitimate reason to shut them off, as they lag.

@Lawless Charisma: It's perfectly reasonable to ask for a reason, as in the many threads that have come and gone since the feature came out, not a single person has given a good reason to have it disabled (side from the Arena one, but that has workarounds). The feature is being used simply to irritate other users and impede their use of the site, and that's why it should be taken away. As for that user, sadly, one can't report someone for doing the equivalent of "neener neener". I also assume it's blocked for spite, as there isn't any reason to think otherwise. I want to know what that pair of shoes is but they have it blocked? Well, obviously it was done to inconvenience myself and others. Also, as someone explained quite well earlier in the thread, if someone has their list blocked, why would I assume they'd want me to PM or comment them to ask?
I haven't really found/heard any good reason to have it on or off, people that hate* having it blocked will tell someone that has it blocked and says why they have it blocked is illogical where at the same time I've seen people that dislike it that haven't given a real good answer as to why it should not be hidden in my opinion. Then again I don't get angry at someone having their list blocked or not mainly due to the fact that I know how to obtain information on Gaia**, plus I never really found the point in being enraged about something on a website either. Does it get annoying from time to time to me? Sometimes, but I always remember that its not like I'm never going to see that item again. If I do then I could always look at someone's equipment list to see if its hidden or not. If it is then oh well I'll just do what I normally do when I'm wanting to obtain information on Gaia or I'll just wait until someone with that same item with their equipment list is off. Even if I didn't get on Gaia as much as I do and there were a ton of items I wouldn't get angered at seeing someone's equipment list either, due to me again doing the usual for when I want to obtain information. To be honest though, I never really found the point in having the equipment list in the forums.

I do have to admit that your the first person that I've seen that has been annoyed by this and wants it gone, instead of forcing people to have it shown.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

*Note this does not mean everyone that dislikes the feature
**Note that yes, there are people who do not know how to obtain information on Gaia. How I obtain my information is looking through threads such as the GCD when a new RIG comes out, going to Q&A (I actually did that with Gambino's Pen..got a nice response on my mule and thanked them), tektek to see if it has a new item or not, and asking around in general.

Fun fact if anyone wanted to know: I block mine when I start to see threads about equipment lists. And I don't block mine out of spite or just to piss people off, plus even if I have it blocked I'd be happy to answer any questions about what certain item that it is that I am wearing.

*wanders off annoyed because I don't know what that black and gold jobber you have on is*

Is this what you were wondering what he was wearing?

@Andromeda Phoenix: Fortunately not on this one, I hate white-knighting by myself! rofl
Ha - if they came swarming in, we'd beat them back, we usually do. I doubt they'd notice all at once, either. We'd just get the occasional nerfherder stumbling in (probably from AT) and crying about how someone used their combo that been in the family for years!!!111 rofl
Seriously though, how would they know the disable option was gone if it wasn't announced? lol

Gah, I hate checking profiles, as a quarter of the time, they have autoplay crap on. I actually saw a thread in Q+A recently where a user wanted to know how to put a bunch of autoplay vids in his profile to be as obnoxious as possible! XD
I feel your pain on Marionette - just like Valhalla, I want it for the clothes, not the hair. >.<

@Captain Philip Pears: rofl I so want to start doing that! I swore I'd do that if they made the option to hide posting history, but I never thought about the equipped lists! XDDDD

@Squid Liquid: In all seriousness, it didn't used to be common, it used to be limited to special snowflakes and AT'ers with 500 bajillion tons of matching crap on. Now though, it's gone from roughly one in every 20-30 avvies I'd click on would have it disabled, now it's more like one in five, it's ridiculous.

@Akitoki_Houjou: That's the thing though, there ARE items you don't see all the time. I mentioned a pair of boots someone was really rude about and refused to share - it was months before I saw them again on any avvie. Same goes for little-used poses of EI, there are poses I've never even seen used, and if I wasn't quite familiar with EI's in general, I'd have no idea.
I actually do want it to be forced to be shown, not to remove the feature itself. xd

I mean, look at it this way - it was put as an option under our avvies to help people, so that when people found an item they liked on another avvie, they could have an easy way of finding out what it was so they could get one, too. This really works in Gaia's favor when it comes to cash items, as then the user may be tempted to go buy that item.

As for your fun fact, then why would you disable it? It sounds like spite to me. Also, why would anyone PM people about an item they have on if their list is disabled? Isn't disabling your list a pretty clear sign that the person wants to be a special snowflake and NOT share?
Lulz, I found it last night, though thank you for linking! It just really irked me that I should have to go out of my way to go and find the item, instead of using the feature that Gaia put there JUST so I could find the item and buy it or put it on my wishlist or whatever. Kind of silly, right?

If you don't want other users to see your items, then don't wear them. Period. You want to keep your precious inventory contents a secret, run around in your grey undies. If you're wearing them, then other users can see them, and shouldn't have to jump through hoops to identify them.

Most users happen to work hard for their "precious inventory contents", so it's not really your decision as to whether or not you're able to see exactly what a user is wearing. Some of us happen to think that showing off "ooh, look what I can afford & you can't, lolololololol" is kind of pathetic.

You and practically everyone else complaining here aren't all that special in this world, that doing a little bit of hard work & having to click through a few extra pages, or learning how to figure out things on your own without demanding that other people be kind enough to help, is so beneath you, either.
I'm not so special that I need to hide my items. I'm not 'showing off' the items by wearing them, nor is letting people who CHOOSE to look at my equipped list showing off.

I've worked hard for my inventory too. Guess what? Gaia still owns EVERY SINGLE PIXEL. Not me. Gaia.

Exactly.

Hey, you want to see my items?

Well, I don't own them, so go ahead and look.

The one's I'm not wearing? Sure, go ahead. If you want I'll show you my entire inventory.

Wait...what? Hold the ********' phone. I can understand all the other reasons for why someone would want this feature but I have two words for you: public forum. The whole point of this site is to chat on the forums while showing off your avatar. If you are that worried about the privacy of your avatar on a public avatar based forum...No no...I'm not gonna go there. I'm just gonna say these few things: 1, on the internet, the least of your worries concerning privacy should be what the hell's on your avatar. 2. I'm trying to work with you guys who like this feature to disable the viewing of this list even though it annoys me so. So please, work with me, and actually try to come up with a reason that makes a bit more sense...

Common sense tells us that if you see someone wearing an item that you don't normally see, it's either really rare or not that popular. These people cannot be that afraid of getting hacked or something, 'cause hiding the exact names of what you're wearing isn't gonna stop someone from hacking you or begging at ya like a dog or something.

@AloysuisWeasley: Awwwz *poutyface* xd
Edit: I know we'll deal with it, but why even go there? It'll just bring more arguments for the users, throwing flames and anger and all this other really unneeded crap around, and the staff sitting at their computers laughing at our ridiculousness, debating on making a joke item based off of this predicament.

You know this...GCD.
Quote:
"Hey, this feature's gone. Didja use it? Do you miss it now that you know it's gone 'cause I brought it your attention?"
"Oh really!? I'ma make a thread about it in SF!"
Sometimes I feel like the folks in that forum know what's about to happen on the site before the staff even thinks up of doing it. rofl I'm not bashing them, I'm just saying that's just how it is there. It's exactly how I found out Denier Cri disappeared again. xd

It's not even the autoplay stuff. Sometimes you can't find the thing amongst all the images and avis strewn about the page and the graphics and ugh... @_@

People who hide items just want attention (pm me to find out!) or are insanely egotistic (everyone is gonna steal my super awesome original idea!).

Why?

Because they all say you could just use tektek or ask Q&A to find out, so they are actively acknowledging you can find out no matter what, they just want to make it harder for you.

What dicks.
She said it all, attention whores, "they could just PM me", god how stupid xD;
I have no problem myself (I hang out in the GCD, so, I usually see new items before 50% of gaia), but I see how it can be annoying, its fairly pointless, and I am sure that if the feature didn´t started with that ability (to turn it off) we wouldn´t have had any complain.

Five of Spades: what?, are you serious?, thats really, I'm sorry, stupid? x-X;
I know most of the items by memory, at least EIs and RIGs, its super easy, no effort there...

I'm sorry, how is this stupid? If you know what the items are called, you'll never have to ask what item I'm/or anyone else is wearing. That's not what the topic is about, he said most have their PM's turned off so they can't ask, so it doesn't matter that you know what most items are called, he's complaining about the fact that he doesn't. He should leanr what the items are called, then he won't have anything to complain about.

Tell that to a newbie coming onto the site not even knowing what the hell an EI is. Besides, solving one man's problem doesn't negate the fact that others can have the same exact problem.

I really think that there would have been a lot of crying and fist-pounding if Gaia had released the "show equipped items" feature with NO WAY to opt out of it. This thread is a very belated (and, frankly, weak, as it tries to make speculated "lost profits" part of the argument) complaint on the ability to opt out... look, there are always going to be people who don't want to reveal exactly what their avatars are composed of; mostly these people are just trying to "protect" their avatar's look in lieu of a copyright. It especially makes sense for avatars that people have entered in the Arena, so their entry doesn't get ripped off.

Anyway, if the inability to see a list of items another user is wearing is hurting Gaia, this is probably the first Gaia's heard of that. We only had those lists in profiles for the longest time anyway. Some people only want their friends to see it. If someone was an a*****e to you when you PMed them about what item they have on, report them. If you have trouble finding items because of Gaia's crappy tagging system, TELL GAIA TO FIX THAT.

Bottom line, it's not going to happen. Only because you want to see what someone has equipped on their avatar? Nope, not going to happen. It doesn't have to be personal to be posted. There are many avatars out there with the same item on, and some will gladly tell you what the item is called, others won't.

Look for the item, search it on tektek, but you won't get this one. I never have my equipped list up. It makes my profile look bad, it shouldn't matter what my avatar is wearing.(If you want the item, ask the person, search the username's topic and post there.) It's not hard at all.

You're making this out like it's some huge issue. Just because it's "annoyed" you from time to time, doesn't mean they should go about changing it because a few people here and there get a little annoyed at some point. There are many things that annoy the hell out of everyone, but it's not going to change anything. Look how long it took them to fix all the glitches, they aren't going to be worried whether you can see someone's equipped list.

As for the solution, read their profile, and see what forum they mostly go to, etc. But you cannot force someone to post something that they do not want.

That's to bad if you like the item, you'll have to find some other way.

It's never going to happen.

^_^;; And on what authority do you post that opinion? This whole forum, Site Feedback, is for expression - we're expressing an annoying with this particular feature. It's up to the Gaian staff to decide what to do about it. You don't speak for them, please don't post as if you do.
