Certainly, reports are viable in such a circumstance, but would a newbie just wanting to learn an item and getting soundly told to "******** off" really care about reporting if their impression of the users was negative enough to make them leave or otherwise just screw interaction with others?

One or two users does not an entire user base make. I would expect that such a new user who read through the TOS upon signing up would report these abusive people, and let the mods deal with them accordingly. Or, of course, take the other option, and ask someone else what a certain user has equipped.

@ AloysiusWeasely: Don't fall for this trap. Abrasive as he is, he (unfortunately) still has a right to his opinion, and you're starting to sound almost as bad as he is.

Of course, I never did say this applied to the entire userbase. It was merely an idea of how it could happen.

As for the topic at hand, I do hope that Damien and Aloysius, could, perhaps, tone down some of the flying vitriol? Whether either of you are actually spitting venom or not, mutual de-armament would potentially prevent the rest of the topic from attracting the increasing undertones of anger and becoming a flame-attack war. Just as trolls breed trolls and feed each other to topic death, anger (imagined or otherwise) breeds self-sustaining anger which can effectively murder any normal, calm discussion.

Ha - the newbs/n00bs don't even usually read forum rules, much less that mind-numbingly-worded TOS. lol
Really though, if the first thing I was greeted with on the site were total jerks, I'd probably stick around to flame, but most people would likely leave.

As for the clown, I'm far less annoyed than I was before, and much more amused. It definitely wins worst argument of the week award, though.

I'm very sad you're one of the anti-equipped list people though - having it disabled really doesn't help with the beggars. xp

Eh, I just see the people frustrated over it being disabled a ton more than people ever mentioning how happy they are they can disable it. The funny part is, about half the time their list will be disabled, but yet they'll have it up in their profile. The bad part is that it's becoming more and more common, from what I've seen lately.

Well, I leave it up in my profile because I like to let my friends know what my current outfit is made up of. cool

Unfortunately, they happen to be one of the reasons I keep it disabled. Like I said, my friends can see all the items I have equipped just fine in my profile, but if the only reason for someone wanting to befriend me is so that they can solicit gifts from me or get me to lower the price of an item that they don't want to raise the gold to buy from me in the MP, then I end up refusing their requests and adding them to my ignore list. It does make interacting with others a pain, but I'm glad to say that I don't get half as much spam/scamming attempts from certain people as others do.
Meh, I don't like the feature of hiding it too much.
I don't hide my items.
Or at least I think I don't.
My profile settings are always out of whack.
But I guess people are entitled to their privacy.
I don't like the people who are all "KRGTHYUJYI6U7YJHGB THAR GUNNA STEEL MAI PRESHUSH AVEE!!!11!", though.
If I see an item I want and they don't have their list available that will just make me PM them and probably pester them.
Eh, but I guess they knew that was gonna happen.

@Corinth Maxwell: ...And your profile is private, too. :/

It's not like those people are hard to spot, I get at least one of them a day. It's easy - if they friend you and you don't know them, and in their request to join you it says "I love yur avvie/tank/gimme goldz", then you decline.

*wanders off annoyed because I don't know what that black and gold jobber you have on is*

His friends can see it, strangers can't.

OP, not seeing what an item is doesn't bother me that much. Vague annoyance. But chances are I will see the item again and identify it later. Or I post somewhere and describe the item and people usually can tell me what it is. Or post a picture of an avatar wearing said item. Takes a little longer but I never have had to wait more than a few hours to figure out what something was.

The feature makes sense to be provided on an opt-out basis. I feel it would be less fair to force people to show everyone their equipped-list. Especially since people can hide their profile, which was previously the only place to show the equipped-list. They are allowed to hide it for whatever reason, I don't really get why it bothers you. It never bothered me, I'll always find out what the item is eventually. And normally if you PM someone they will tell you.

Personally, it bothers me because they never give a good reason to be able to block such a thing. All I've seen it used for is to be rude to other users - I see no point in making things difficult for people, especially when it would be in Gaia's best interests to allow viewing on items.

Also, it has taken me months to find out what an item was before. A simple store common that no one could be bothered to tell me what it was, and PM'ing the user just got me a mess of shitty attitude.

It's unfortunate that somebody had to be a jerk to you, and people shouldn't act that way, but... I also can't see any reason that I am entitled to a list of a user's equipped items. Sure it might be nice to know, but if worse comes to worst you always have the option of going through items in Tektek by color or release date to find out what it is. If somebody doesn't want to share, even if they are being a jerk, I don't think Gaia should make them accept the public equipped list feature. It's okay for people to turn features off. I turn aquariums off, the people with aquariums aren't complaining that I'm never grabbing their booty.

But that's an assumption that people are blocking items for spite. Not everybody does. Not everybody is rude. People block them for whatever reason. It is not polite to tell them that their reasons are wrong or invalid.

And if somebody got mean with you for asking what an item is, you should report them because they don't have the right to harass. If I wanted to know & the list was blocked, I would have said I was sorry for pming them & I would have asked politely what the one item was. And I would report them if they pmed me back, just to flame me for asking. A simple reply stating that they don't wish to disclose what items they are wearing should be enough. Name calling & rudeness is uncalled for. That's considered abuse.

And having the list blocked doesn't mean they automatically don't want pms about items. Some people might just be a little bit guarded with a secret combination of layering. I don't see harm in politely asking what an item is if they have pms open. But inquiring about a whole outfit might seem pushy.
I once saw someone wearing a shirt I adored, and when I checked they had their list disabled. It didn't even occur to me to PM them because, hey, if they blocked their list then clearly they don't want people to know - what was the chance they'd tell me if I PMed them about it? It does annoy me a little when someone has viewing disabled and if they removed the ability to block it, I would be that little tiny bit happier. Personally, I'm not in the habit of going out of my way to bother people with PMs on something that's only for my convinence.

But I suspect, in the interests of peace, Gaia will probably just leave it in place. ^_^;;

@AloysiusWeasley: First person to agree with you then? whee
Now that you mention it, I remember people throwing 'bout that reason. 3nodding Well...you've always got the paranoid.... ninja I just look at it this way, there are so many accounts on Gaia that at least one of those accounts has an avi that looks like yours in some way, if not exact. It's like having a bunch of monkeys randomly typing and having one or two of them eventually coming up with a sentence from Shakespeare. New item evolution? You see a small group of people with the exact same or similar items in the exact same poses. That doesn't necessarily mean everyone in that small group was trying to copy everyone else, and if someone thinks that *points to sentence about paranoia* But if it'll keep this complaint of not being able to disable a feature from swarming SF and covering up quite a few things that are a bit more important in terms of feedback.... sweatdrop

I haven't checked folks profiles for equipped lists ever since this feature came out, so I really wouldn't know about that one. xd Though, it's very annoying to see a group of avis wearing the same dang pose, and all their equipped lists are disabled. *stares at avis wearing Pale Marionette* That was not nice. I swear it took me forever to be reminded that it had poses other than the hair. X_X But once again, if it keeps the complaints concerning the ability to disable this feature down, I can put up with it. Do we really wanna see them swarming site feedback? O.O;

Agreed. When I see an item on someone, and can't find out, because the SOB hid it, I press ignore without a second thought.

Just how often are you guys running into hidden equipped lists?

i dont know.. hiding the items im wearing makes me feel speshal *^* ~ <3

but i have gotten frustrated when i see a musthave pose and i cant tell what item it is emo
but then i just search keywords on tektek, and isolate by style for ei's and find it anyway.. <3 its more fun that way. :3 before we couldnt see this at all anyway, so see it as a bonus. some people also have what they are wearing on their profile even though they hide it in the forums, so its usually many workarounds to find what youre looking for. besides working for stuff and getting results is fun i think :3 everyone is getting so lazy nowadays..
