It amazes me, in this day and age, there are people who do not have proper antivirus software and/or AdBlock Plus.
If you already have an antivirus program, install Addblock and NoScript on Firefox if you're using it. I have them running and like, I hardly see ANY adds on Gaia anymore.

Granted, you might have to go through noscript and allow Gaiaonline if you want some of their features to function properly, but the google adds stay blocked.
Two words, Anit-virus programs.

I've never gotten a virus from a web site. o.o

Virus protection is your responsibility, not Gaia's and Gaia's ad's are not any different than any other sites ad's. So I ask you. How can you be sure the said virus came from the ad's here?

I'm sorry, but Gaia Online is a business, and therefore, virus protection is their responsibility.

It is also ours, Gaia can't control our computers. neutral
I think I know what you're talking about.

There is an AD on numerous sites besides Gaia, that has a virus that auto-downloads the virus into the computer without permission. It pretends to be a virus protector (even uses the Window's page style) and downloads a virus to your computer.

I have a Mac, so I saw my little download box appear and saw it get loaded in... before I stopped it.

You're joking, right?
I'm sorry, but it's not only Gaia's fault for these Flash-ads.
If you're going to blame Gaia for having these ads, you might as well blame every single website throughout the internet because Gaia is certainly not the only one who has these ads. It's annoying but not fully Gaia's responsibility. They can't choose what ads they put on their site seeing how it comes in a preset bundle from Google. However, they try their best to remove ads like this.
All you can do is get a good virus protection program, an ad-blocker, screencap the ad if you manage to get it somehow, and report it to Gaia.
I myself have been seeing these ads and how they work, luckily haven't experienced any problems yet, but Gaia's had problems with these ads for a while now. So yeah. You just have to be careful. =S

2 simple things..(1) Get Firefox (2) Get the adblock add-on, presto no more ads on Gaia.

Anti-virus software isn't 100 percent foolproof. I had AVG before my computer got hit by a virus that overworked my backup hard drive to the point of physically breaking. The only warning I got came from Google, and the only reason I ignored said warning was because that site hadn't given me any problems in the past.

Live and learn, I guess.
