Ever since the new rule I've been crusin the CB for sig violation to report.

It's funny to see their reactions.

Thats not really funny.... Why would you want to cause someone anger? Why would you laugh at someone getting upset? Its not funny at all. The mature thing to do would be if you wanted rules to be followed is to give the person a chance before you reported them and acctually take the time to PM them and give them a heads up.

Well, a lot of people on Gaia are about as mature as Nelson from The Simpsons. When someone else has something go wrong, they point and laugh. People like that are just huge, stinking, louse-ridden blowholes. stare They might think it's funny, but they don't impress me.

Personally I believe in the idea that just because I can load their (most of the time) huge sigs or sigs with awkward dimentions, it doesn't mean people with lower connections can.

Letting it go only means that their sigs could make using gaia more difficult for those users later down the road.

That's her screenname, dearie.

So has irony come full circle yet? smile
So your saying her last name acctually is Ferris'? I thought it was cause of them going out together. Oh well. That is funny. Cute. Any ways.. as for the fact that you reported my sig for having a few bytes over the allowed size, thats fine. You just wasted a friend of mine's time. A mod friend. Cause it's currently getting fixed for me. He'd personally fixing the picture himself and then thats that. You really only hurt someone else other then me. Kuddos for you. Your so great arnt you?
I am sorry to hear that your friend was charged 1k.
However, Gaia created such a rule so that people would not misuse their signatures and harm others, either slightly via taking longer to load, or, by ensuing porn into the eyes of young teens.

I think that the current rules are excellent, as you are only charged 100g in the first instance. Since these rules penalize quite severely, people would be more careful than ever to make sure that their signatures are well within the 500x500 pi range, as well as being under the TOS of Gaia.
It would also help discourage repeat offenders and would make the moderators have to do much less work.

Often, moderators spend time disabling signatures which aren't offensive in any many, but just over the limit by a bit. This may seem absurd, but everything must have a limit and for Gaia, they chose 500x500 as the limit. There is no leeway and if any is created, other Gaia users would complain about being treated differently.

Sure your friend shouldn't have deserved the taking of that 1000g as he worked hard to gain it and didn't know about the new rules.
However, moderators must stick to being objective when they are moderating and cannot give benefits to individuals, discriminating the rest of the community.

Though, this is where I add something. Your friend, if this is the first time after the announcement, should have only been charged 100g as if he did have another time before the announcement, it should not have been included in the new rules.

Actually I didn't report you, but I'm glad it got taken care of. Your "mod friend" still has mod duties (so there's no hurt really, is there?) and you broke the rules. Boo-hoo, I feel for you; I really do. I just wanted to point it out to you that you shouldn't complain about such things when you yourself are in the wrong.

And in the future, maybe you should learn to fix your own sigs. I doubt your "mod friend" (if that's even the case) can babysit you forever.

EDIT: By screenname I mean that Kimberly Ferris is her actual Gaia screenname. That could be why he referred to her as such.

yeah well this just furthens my case if you didnt notice. Some people was coming in saying how everyone should know about all the rules on gaia. Well I didnt know about the 100k limit. Guess what, someone preyed on that. Why would someone care to cause trouble for someone? Just for the spite of it?

Oh and I was mistaken on the 1k , it was 100g. I guess I misread that part when I glanced at his computer screen.

It's in the ToS you're supposed to read when you agree to them upon joining. Also, there's a link to it on the announcement on the new sig rules. It's hard to miss. neutral

And no one preyed on you. Sigs get reported for their violations not for spite (usually). Don't feel like a victim. You'll be just fine.
ANything over 100 is a bit too much just for a sig, and you should receive a warning first time
Well the rule has allways been there, just now he's got caught. His own fault.

100g isn't much at all.

Remember that this is supposed to be a PUNISHMENT, it's supposed to hurt you where you need it, that's the point.

And it's much better than having zero control if it's ever instated.
I think Inscriven and Darek Khort both brought up very good points. It really is your responsibility to watch what you put in your signature, and also your responsibility to make sure you know the laws/terms of service in advance.

To be honest, I think the system is fairly effective and should keep signature violations down. This way works better, since you can buy back the privilege yourself and it's only 100g the first time. After that, the user should be well aware of the rules and consequences, so there should be few problems later.

Most people know about the rule already, and his sig shouldn't have been over the limit.
It's his own fault for not checking.

Some of us do have lives outside Gaia. So he can't really be at fault for not knowing right away
Exactly. Not everyone prides themselves in constantly reading the gaia TOS

you should read the ToS when you sign up, and regularly check the updates. I was away for vacation for 6 weeks, and even I knew about the new rule, because I checked the updates. The first time you should learn from it. 100 gold is not much. I think it's a fair rule. I learned from my first time! (it was appearntly 100.01 bytes intead of 100.00 bytes) If you don't, you're plain stupid, sorry to say it like that.
I have a question. I got a signiture violation once before the fines. If I got another one, would I have to pay 1000 gold? (on my other account)

You seriously do that? That sucks dude. You will not be granted modship for ratting people out over things that are of no detriment to your experience on gaia.

Rude's Bestie

Cat

It can be a detriment and if no one reports the oversized sigs, they probably won't get seen by a mod.

It's kind of funny that there's all this uproar about "new sig rules" but they've been in place since June 2003. They're hardly new, and not knowing about them when there's a link to the Rules & Guidelines at the bottom of every page is no one's fault but your own.
