User ImageThe best and most beautiful things in the world cannot be seen or even touched - they must be felt with the heart.

Or, you know, since the mods/devs/admins can't be on Gaia 24-7 like everyone seems to think: The users could report the trollers and spammers and threads that break the rules. It's the least we can do considering everything they do for us.

Thanks for missing the point. neutral NO where did I say anything of the sort.

Reading comprehension much?

Bitchy much?

Like I said: The mods/devs/admins can;t be on Gaia 24-7 which is it would take to clean the GD up and bring up the standard we all want ti to be. That's why all we can is report. You can't complain that they aren't doing anything when they've been trying to deal with it. It's not their fault the GD has morphed into a cesspool for trolls and spammers.

And seeing as the can't be on 24/7 shouldn't other methods be used in that forum as bad as it is?

What's the point?

If that's the way GD wants to stay, then this is their choice. You don't see people attacking SF for being "too serious".

I'm sorry but the GDer aren't above the rules nor can the users control the site.

And what is it of the rest of the site's business?

That's not the reason. It's because being "too serious" isn't against the rules. Try again.

That's exactly the point, though. What happens in GD site-not-allowed's problem. I've seen more threads spring up about this, and the last time it happened GD almost called war.

These threads are not helping anything.

No, it's not. The GD is a forum on Gaia and not it's own entity as some would like to think. Just because you don't want to do more deal with it doesn't mean more shouldn't be done. Keep on ignoring it and let others try to get more done. What's not helping anything is keeping up with the same routine that's not getting squat done. The whole defeatist attitude about the GD is getting tiresome.

It's more of the fact that these kinds of blatant nay-saying of GD isn't going to help. People are calling for stricter rules and "more warnings and bans" on people who have their own community. This isn't a case of "The Site vs. GD", and it really isn't fair that they be targeted when everything so far suggested would not benefit the community at all.

These are people just like you an I. They want their forum a specific way. I do not see why Gaia cannot work with the forum's community instead of working against it. The idea here that everything that happens there is worth a ban just because some people do not like it, or feel it is their solemn duty to indirectly enforce the rules from Site Feedback, is rather grinding.

How does stopping a forum from continuously breaking the rules not benefit the site as a whole when that forum is a part of the site? How is it 'fair' that they continuously break the rules in that forum and nothing is done to prevent it?

Yes, they are people, but they are also users on Gaia and must abide by the rules. Who said everything done there is worthy of a ban? That's not even the tone of this thread. How/why would work with them? The only thing I can think of is the account age restriction so that repeat trolls don't keep popping up in that forum. Oh, wait. That was already suggested in this thread and just about every other thread of this nature.

After reading the current "GD base" threads and chatting in cards with other long time members. I had a finally saw a pattern.

Remember when you could e-hump people in towns? You guys did away with that.
Remember when people had "hot gurls c** cyber" in the game rooms? You did away with that.
Remember when trolls and spammers would go into cinema and annoy people trying to watch the movies? Well you made it friends only and finally got rid of that.
Bra shops? GONE
Personals? GONE
Bots? Nearly gone.

You starting to see where I'm going now? For each MAJOR feature that gets MAJORLY abused the staff here has changed the rules to make reporting easier, got rid of the feature in question, or made other changes to make it fair to use for all. Therefore why the bloody hell is the GD still around as is? We have had MANY threads about the issues and all that has happen was some rule changes and more mods yet the issues are still there. We know you have the ability to delete forums, we know you have the ability to change who can access a forum, and we know you can change for the better.

So please Gaia show some consistency and make the GD better.

How about telling the community of GD that the rest of the site wants them to change?

Food for thought: CB is just as bad. The only difference that is pushing people to be against GD is the word "discussion". Otherwise, people would leave it alone.

We have, in the past. Whenever threads like this were made here in SF, a good amount of people from the GD would come in and start protesting about how they "like" the GD as it is and that they don't want to change. >.>

I'd agree with you if the GD was a private forum, but it's not. It's a public forum open to all users right now and is being abused by trolls and the like. How you don't understand that baffles me.
If you don't care or it's none of your business why do you care if others want to care and do something about it?

If people want to suggest things to help the forum, that's one thing. I'm not in the market to support anything that will ultimately destroy a standing community.

It makes the rest of the site look bad. People shouldn't feel like they have to avoid a forum because it's a ******** cesspool. New members shouldn't come in, see that and think it's okay.

The GD is a problem on the site, and therefore it is the entire site's problem.

In short, the people of the GD do not own it. Their "culture" IS the problem, and needs to be dealt with, because it is a culture of rule-breaking and trolling that does not belong on this site. Preservation of their culture is not something to consider, especially when our aim is to eradicate or alter it.

We're going for GDenocide here.

As I stated, I am not in the market to support anything which will destroy a community. The only reason it is a problem is because the community is completely misunderstood.

I would rather see things being suggested that will help the community in its current state, not drive people to lashing against the Staff.

EDIT:
In reading your addition, I'm not sure Gaia is out to shoot themselves in the foot over something that's a lot more delicate than what SF understands.

Even if that community is only one of trolls, spammers, and pic droppers? People have been suggesting ways to make that forum better by getting rid of the bad elements that are there. The account age restriction suggestions is one such idea. Yet, time and time again GD regs or users like yourself will come to the thread defending the GD as if nothing is wrong. "Leave it alone," "It's none of your business," etc.

Im afraid the only hope for fixing the GD now would be to delete it and let the troublemakers stream out into the other forums where they'd get reported if they tried anything.
