Welcome to Gaia! ::

And I'll bet that distributing harmful utilities and redirecting etc breaks any sort of business contract they have, if one does exist.

Has it ever occured to you that they may be under contract? They may not, but then again it's very likely.

I doubt the ad companies would pay Gaia on a day-to-day basis.
[]
Yes, but there is such a thing as RESEARCH which Gaia should have done before they even gave an adserver a second look. If they are listed as dangerous but yet Gaia still chose them, what does that sound like Gaia is trying to say to its users? "We don't care about you or your computers that you use to access this site, for every one 'oldbie' that leaves we have X amount of newbies, so we don't care." That's what this sounds like to me. They could at the very least researched what they were getting themselves into before they got themselves into it.

Wow seriously? I even recognize the names of half of those from my adware scans.

They're shady. I'd like it if something could be done.

*Worried*

I don't have any problems when I'm on my main [I use FF with NoScript], but every time I've gone on my mule in the past... 4 days? ... I've been told that a pop-up has been blocked. This is in Google Chrome, which I only use for my mule on Gaia...
Luckily I found out about this whole fiasco before getting infected and downloaded NoScript and I scan my PC regularly anyways...
But... damn... please deal with this... ^-^;;

I'm running a Mac with Leopard, using Firefox 3.0, with Adblock. I never get anything on my computer, and I haven't had any redirections.

But I guess I'm the minority. If there's a problem, Gaia need to look into it.

Well, the viruses and spyware affect oldbies and newbies alike, so really it'd just say "We don't care" in general
This is why I downloaded Noscript. (Blocking program. :'D)
I can't see any ads from gaia at all. p:

While I don't own a Mac (yet, anyway, thatll change soon!) I am an avid user of them at my school. Our lab has no firewalls, and we have never gotten a virus in the four years I have worked on them. Mac's just don't get viruses as easily.

Anyway, on to the topic of this thread. A few months ago, one of those ads infiltrated this very computer with a redirect virus. Got past my Kaspersky, which still ticks me off to this day... since I paid for my Kaspersky... Anyway, had to end up starting the computer from scratch, since that's the only way to get rid of a hijack virus once the computer is infected...

Bad Gaia. I knew I got the virus from Gaia, (even using Firefox with Adblock; now I use Opera and I'm virus free so far~)
but I thought it was just one of their rogue ads... I seriously hope they change their ad providers, or I really might consider leaving Gaia (if I get another nasty virus like that again, even after all the money I've put it over the years...)... Yeah, I'll complain and rant about Gaia alot, but this is the first time where I've felt they've really crossed the line...

Fix soon, please
*now goes to play with whiny puppy, whom was irritating me, sorry if post doesn't make entire sense... whines are annoying... *headdesk**
Yeah, macs are better about viruses and such I guess. Still, far from every gaia user has a mac.

I've never gotten redirects or viruses from Gaia, but I used to get quite a few tracking cookies.
The tracking cookies stopped after I updated my anti virus / anti spyware.

But I don't think we NEED to have these just to be on Gaia. :/ They really need to do something about that. If I'm going to pay for Gaia Cash I don't want to have to worry about my computers safety on the site. : <
who would be dumb enough to click on those things anyway.
Thank you for posting this. If the redirection and other problems users are reporting are something Gaia can control then it seems ridiculous that it hasn't been done so already. This is something that needs to be addressed.
Please, go to the "Report Ad" section, and just report them and be done with it. If you want Gaia's staff to listen, sometimes straight forward is the best way.
