Welcome to Gaia! ::

Nymshi
Considering the potential damage Gaia could be doing to MY computer with their careless advertising policies, I find it cheaper and far more convenient to resort to ad and script blocking tools. The way I see it is that if Gaia doesn't care about costing me money through their negligence, then why should I care about any advertising revenue they lose because of me?

Agreed...
Gaia used to make like $6k a day off of advertising
I believe that is halved now
It's not due to users leaving, half of the users havent left
I believe it's due to adblocking.
Most of the people I know who have adblock say they got it BECAUSE of Gaia...
I see where Gaia is coming from. I see where others are coming from.

But if there really is only one solution for ads and that solution miraculously includes this bundle deal of bullshit... then why doesn't every site have these problems? Sure, every site gets the occasional "slap the monkey and win an ipod" but not many sites actually give you malware through their ads. Tracking cookies yes. Actual viruses? no. Myspace and facebook are the only other sites I have heard of with ads that give out viruses. My stupid mom got one of them since "Dont go on facebook" means "Go on facebook a lot and click everything" to her. I wiped her pc to teach her a lesson.

But besides those sites
I have never really had issues. I mean and of course some obviously shady sites, like warez sites and sites that claim to give you free stuff, places that dont care about your pc
Is Gaia one of those places too? I guess so. Gaia is shooting themselves in the foot with this. The more users block their ads, the less revenue they get from ads.

I don't even understand why they are so concerned with making money from multiple ad servers. They make oodles of money from Gaia Cash, Monthly Collectibles, all of that sponsored stuff they are constantly pushing down our throats, and I'm sure they make some from the legit ad servers (or they did until everyone found ways to block all of the ads) How money hungry are they that they would continue to use shady ad servers at the risk of their users. Why not only use the safe ones? It just seems like common sense to me.

The thing that gets me most about this whole thing, is you aren't supposed to even see the damn ads if you buy MC's. The month my computer was infected with all of that crap, I bought MC's and I STILL SAW THE ADS. WTF GAIA SERIOUSLY. D:<

Gaia disappoints me more and more all the time.

Wouldn't them removing ad servers outright actually take away revenue just as much if not more than people using ad block? Also you got to take into account that even if Gaia did remove these dangerous ad servers people wouldn't just stop using ad block and no script; so wouldn't that be like shooting themselves in the foot twice? Also I doubt that any of the ad servers that any site uses, that includes google and yahoo, are completely safe so you might reduce the problems but I doubt you will outright eliminate them.

Google and yahoo, and a number of other ad servers (with trustworthy ratings) handle such malicious ads very expediently and very reliably so they are not as much of an issue. It would improve the situation greatly.

And you have a point, but I have a counterpoint-
Hundreds, maybe thousands join Gaia each day. These people may or may not have adblock. If those people dont have trouble with the ads, they have no reason to get adblock or no reason to block Gaia's ads specifically. Therefore, even if some people continued to use adblock, the growing number of active users would eventually meet up with demand and they would make a decent profit from it once more. Gaia takes in new people every day. I don't remember the exact number but they announced it or mentioned it once before, around last year. So it's better for them to fix stuff than just leave it broken, in hopes of bettering their situation AND ours.

Ah, I see :3
Good to see you around again, lol
And, I do think it would take a while for their profit to build back up.
But the way they're going now, with more people blocking them every day, its a downward trend for their ad profits. So eh... I suppose a slow solution is better than no solution.
I do actually feel for them on that, Gaia is a large site and deserves to make a decent handful off of their ads. They just dont get permission to spam up my PC in the process sweatdrop

Bolded the last line for emphasis. I was on Gaia on my boyfriend's computer, an ad downloaded a virus and he ended up reformatting. Solution? Ad-block. 3nodding I'd be more than willing to turn it off while on Gaia if I could be sure something like what I just described wouldn't happen again.

Yeah I get what your saying and maybe one day they will wise up. In a perfect world these ad companies would take more care so the people they partner up with don't get the short end of the stick like Gaia is getting from all these bad ones.
