I'm glad to see you know how advertising works, OP.

Gaia uses Google-Analytics for ads, and Quantserve for tracking cookies. They do NOT choose what is shown, nor who shows it within their ad distributors. Those domains exist, and they work apparently through Google ads, but tough s**t. Gaia cannot say "I want need ads to pay the bills, but I don't want them from yada yada yada". They do, however, have the right to flag certain ads within what they're given.

No, Gaia CANNOT change this without explicit permission from Google ads, which I doubt they'll get.

And this is relevant to how they can solve the problem, as you've already lain out...how?

They can't, and it's not their job to protect your PC, so I fail to see how there's a problem in general.

It's not Gaia's fault said consumer has shitty security.

No, but it IS Gaia's fault if they are not doing anything to resolve this problem, which, as you can see from the multiple pages of this thread, still is. The ads that get flagged are ones that are inappropriate only, not the ones that have the potential of viruses.

I'm glad to see you ignore the parts of my post that make sense and expect the people who can't control what's displayed to fix it.

That's like walking up to Microsoft and bitching at the UI department that your scanner caused an unstable system and demanding a fix.

Are you sure you're reading your OWN posts? I've SHOWN you where you said they had the power to flag ads. That is...say it with me...control. Minimal as it may be, it is still control. Google didn't say, "here's a bunch of ads, it isn't our fault if they're infected or inappropriate, tough bananas if there are a bunch in there". No, that's not how it works.

Actually, that's kind of how it works.

Within those ads handed to Gaia, Gaia picks out the ads they want to show through tagging. Sometimes, they're miss-tagged, and other times, the tracking cookies pick up on your browsing habits and display ads entirely unrelated to Gaia, and Gaia can't do s**t about those ones. All Gaia can do is request certain ads not be displayed. This is the "flagging" in discussion.

All Gaia can do is request certain ads not be displayed ((and that request is only honored if it's an ad in their display pool))

I fail to see how control is achieved through this. It's all requests, not orders.

If Gaia requests what ads to use in the bunch they are given...then this is control of the ads they use.
As I said, Google does not hand them the ads, and forces them to use every single ad.
The ads need to fit within the confines of the site's TOS.
Ergo, Gaia has control over what ads to put in.
Some are missed, and these get flagged, another form of control.

Basically, you're arguing that Gaia has no control over the ads, and showing evidence of the contrary. So, pick a side.

If Gaia requests what ads to use in the bunch they are given...then this is control of the ads they use.
Requests are not orders. If Google decided to change it's policy, or even behavior practices in general, Gaia's ads could very easily become porn ads. For literally no reason.

No control there.

All the ads in the pool, yes they are forced to use. It's a rando-rotation.

Dion Necurat

Bullshit. If they did, Gaia wouldn't have to request them dropped. Google's just nice (and smart enough) to attempt to do so.

Dion Necurat
Ergo, Gaia has control over what ads to put in.
I fail to see why
Dion Necurat

This I do agree with.

I have picked a side.

Gaia cannot control what's being shown at any given time, or where the ad itself is hosted from. The ads are not pre-screened before use.

Dictionary.com - Request
the act of asking for something to be given or done, esp. as a favor or courtesy; solicitation or petition: At his request, they left.

Dictionary.com - Order
an authoritative direction or instruction; command; mandate.

The words are practically synonymous.

Incorrect: any ads that do not fall under the ToS are removed, thus, CONTROL.

Bullshit.

You don't see ads for porn, do you? Porn is not allowed on Gaia because of the ToS and the guidelines, ergo, ads for them are also not allowed. That is, unless you have proof that such an ad was on Gaia?

Are you doing this on purpose? I have a feeling you are.

So you admit that Gaia DOES have control over the ads.

No, you keep flipping back and forth on different points.

YES THEY CAN!!! USERS CAN FLAG INAPPROPRIATE ADS, AND THOSE ADS GET REMOVED!!!

Good grief, there's no way you can't misunderstand this. That is CONTROL. CONTROL. Understand?

Its late. I'm done.

Flying Dicks, I can see where you are coming from.
I hate that you are leaving and you will be missed.
Your thread prompted me to get virus protection and take necessary measures to ensure my computers safety. Thanks to that my computer was saved from a number of Trojan viruses. And I've never had any type of virus before this. I really really liked your feedback and I wish you wouldn't go.

I will try to support the thread as well as I can. This problem should really be dealt with asap. I believe that Gaia will get a bad reputation if the mistakes aren't corrected.
