Welcome to Gaia! ::

Every time I've ever gotten spyware it was from CasaleMedia and Tribalfusion.

What kind of choices does Gaia have in terms of advertising servers? I find it difficult to believe they would willingly choose servers with such a low reputation.

    I'm sure they can't be the only ad-companies out there to get ads from.

    [Edit]Maybe they didn't willing choose it, maybe they did? They seem to have a habit of not throughly researching all things. (Marriage Community Spotlight.) If it's a mistake, they should fix it.

They buy in bulk. :/

...From those companies. Are you insinuating that they buy in bulk without first researching whom they're buying from? Surely they care enough about us to check first and see whether or not their ads will be merrily distributing viruses to their users.

Even though they dont research, they've been informed through user feedback that there are virus problems, at that point they should have researched the ad companies to find the source- They claim it is a rogue ad server but these ratings are usually long term things. If they've always been bad and always will be, they need to nix those ad vendors entirely.

    Google's diagnostic page for Gaiaonline doesn't look good at all.

    Link. Just two months ago, two instances of malicious software being downloaded were reported. If we all trust Google this much, what do you think potential customers are going to do when they find out that this site could be unsafe? Gaia just doesn't need that rep.

    @Flying Dicks;
    Actually, back in early '08, late '07, Gaia's ratings were just as bad, I think. So this has obviously been going on for awhile.

    (Personally I think they probably just went for the lowest-cost ad-vendor and didn't research at all, but that's just me.)

    Gaia tends to not do stuff until they have to, I think. (Amazon-Gaia kung fu reward belt fiasco?)

Another dangerous one to put out there: Adclick.net That one put viruses on my computer that redirected me to porn sites, and I never go to the freaking sites. I suggest they take a closer look at who puts bundles of ads on their sites, if nothing else.
Yeah I linked the google diagnostic page in the first post I think.
Indeed, I would assume the reports started when they changed ad servers, which was a couple years ago, but until now, reports of viruses, redirects, and popups were dismissed as a user issue due to a dev posting saying people wouldnt get those ads if they werent on those types of sites to begin with, and people got scared to speak up I guess. Even now we're still plagued with people who insist it is only the users' fault.

I think adclick is a subsite of one of the linked sites, since it is not on their privacy policy. It is probably a euroclick owned site due to the name similarity but that is only an assumption and I could be totally wrong. Perhaps they just havent updated the privacy policy in that long?

We found him with his face down in the pillow,
with a note that said I'll love her till I die...

Yes, I do get redirections... even without the redirection warninings. Kinda... disturbing. sad

...And when we buried him beneath the willow,
the angels sang a whiskey lullaby.

I got that on Friday. No warning. I'm in the middle of reading a post, then BAM, my eyes are bled to death by a porn site. No warning, not even my Firefox adblockers, etc. etc. prevented it from happening. It's not just kind of disturbing, it IS disturbing. I don't have viruses, ad ware, or anything like that on my computer.
My computer has been getting all kinds of tracking cookies and such. I recently updated my anti-viruis software. It says this site is safe but now I feel I should scan just in case.
I haven't been re-directed yet though.

Gaia itself is safe, its just the ads hosted through it are not. I use adblock plus, spybot search and destroy's immunization, and trend micro pc cillin internet security 14 and I have not had redirections since I got those things, but lots of people do have problems and you shouldnt need to download tons of third party apps just to be safe on a site that claims to care about your security.

IMO if they want you to pay them for ANYTHING they should be a wholly secure site. I've been to free porn sites with less ad troubles than Gaia, which is horrible.

Adclick.net gives me a lot of problems. I've gotten gods only know what from them. Tons of crap, though.

The porn ones especially bug me. I don't like having anything shoved down my throat, but having porn shoved down my throat sends me into fits of fiery rage. If I want to look at it, I will. But I don't, so the ad services can kiss my a** and GTFO my computer.

I think there's no excuse for things like that on Gaia of all sites. I'm having problems with other sites too, like Pogo.com, but they haven't been giving me porn at least. =|

    Ah, sorry. :'D

    Anyways, that .. that doesn't really strike me as a professional way to deal with something like this, but that's just me. And now that we're in the know.. It's not the user's fault. It's a problem with the ad companies that Gaia has chosen and they should be the bigger guy and just own up to it.

    I agree with your last post too. (Except the porn sites.. Haven't been there in awhile. xP)

I'm sorry, but that's just horrible. Why the hell Gaia would do such a thing is beyond me.
I suppose I'm lucky, though. I've got Adblock on, so I can't even see any of the ads that everyone is talking about. I actually got it because of virus reports coming from Gaia, and the fact that I would get virus warnings from Norton when I was browsing the forums. I think it was because of some weird talking ad, too.

Still, that's just not right, and Gaia needs to do something about it. They're perfectly capable of finding reliable ad servers, after all.

I'm on IE right now, but even when I had FF with AdBlock, I still got redirects and I think I got popups too. Plus Adblock is causing people to be unable to view their My Gaia page.
