Welcome to Gaia! ::

While I have no way to know if it's Gaia's fault or not, I know my computer recently got jacked by malware and other bad crap. I can't even boot it up anymore, it just keeps restarting itself. I'm using my mom's crappy computer at the moment. I have a friend comming to look at mine soon, and if he can't fix it I'm going to have to buy a new one.

Gaia should work to make sure other people don't have problems like this down the road, because I know this situatuion royally sucks for me.
Interestingly, a friend of mine also had some Gaia virus troubles before her computer got broken, but it ended up being a hardware malfunction... Neither she nor I think its related, but it is such a weird coincidence, dont you think?

A couple people have reported having their computers stop booting due to the ads on Gaia, and I honestly feel for you guys D: luckily for me, whenever something starts, if I dont think I can fix it, I say uncle and I do a factory restore.
stare I guess users safety just isn't a priority.

No, just no.

I speak not as a mod, but as a computer scientist - a professional with the computer repair business, and an enthusiast in the technology world.

Software does not affect hardware. A computer's hardware has no idea what is running on it. It simply processes the mathematical numbers that are fed to it.

Advertisements are either a) an image, or b) a flash file. Unless a user is running severely outdated software that has known vulnerabilities, neither of these implementations can do anything to a viewer, aside from possible annoyance.

If a user's computer fails to start booting, it isn't a "weird coincidence" of anything relating to Gaia. It's simply because they don't know how to properly take care of their computers.

Which is fine. I'm the first to admit, I don't know how to properly maintain a vehicle. But it's wrong to assume things and spread disinformation. It's best to find somebody who knows what they're talking about and ask for advice.

Software can very well kill hardware
Or have you never heard of boot viruses or infamous hard drive killers? The hardware itself may be fine, but it wont boot anymore.
I had a virus that told my computer to restart every 5 minutes.
I sure do know that a virus can do worse.

The only sites I ever went to on my work computer were my MySpace homepage (I don't really look at other's profiles and mostly just talk with friends) and all around Gaia's forums.
I ended up with some interesting stuff. The computer tech told me that I can get viruses from any site.
Saying that, it's between MySpace and Gaia!

Are you on your second year of college?
What have they taught you in your computer science classes that isn't in your manual?

I'm not trying to be mean, but you're as old as my boyfriend.
How much time do they spend on hardware in your teachings anyway?

The point is... Gaia... using KNOWN malware distributors.
Wouldn't you put more into your site than possibly ruining someone's hard earned money?
They trust you, Gaia.

The computer tech where I work just reformatted my computer which had all sorts of stuff on it too.
That gets rid of everything if it's just software (viruses).
Thanks...They should ensure we're safe. Hopefully reporting the companies and constantly getting Gaia to listen may help. It is because it makes them money and they expect people to click. If somebody clicks and their computer gets destroyed...That is a MAJOR problem and their responsibility. My comp has experienced major problems on here and was almost completely destroyed(fixed now) but if it is unsafe and that is a problem and there's no excuse.
