That's been natural legalese since long before webcommerce. Hell, iTunes and youtube have extremely similar Terms of Service legal jabber (some of which includes disuse of such in nuclear payload warehouses, but thats Apple being themselves).

And you should find something like that on any Site that wants to be taken serious. Gaia isn't trying to hide anything, they're being cautious.

Just because the TOS says that doesnt mean they shouldnt put in some effort and try to be morally ok as well as legally.

The only problem is that I infer from the statements in the TOS that Gaia doesn't have to do anything about it, even if the ad servers they get adds from have been known to distribute malware.

I'm not saying that they won't try to help, it just leaves a sour taste in my mouth. confused

I infer you've never read another sites TOS before.

Its legalese, plain and simple. This is to imply that Gaia, while doing their best to protect its end users, they are not intentionally forcing an infection upon its users, the same way that Google's Youtube's legalese states they do not own any of the videos on its site unless specifically noted (google talks and its dislove of raptors, for the most part, is held legally responsible, but that's a diminishing <1% of video content, I assure you), and Apple's legal team believes that they are not responsible for its users to wear black turtlenecks and talk with their hands and allowed to prevent their software from running on unlicensed machines under the guise of ease of use.

In which Gaia is smart enough not to get bundles through those who distribute only malicious content. There's the possibility that one of these ad providers will have something (Which they themselves may not even have intentionally done), and if that happens, Gaia can't/shouldn't be held responsible for anything that should arise from it.

Been there since October 2006. Here, compare other dates if you like.
What I feel is necessary - Gaia controlling its ads. They must find a way. Its just not okay - no matter what the TOS says - to let users be redirected and attacked by malicious ads. It gives Gaia a bad reputation. Its bad for business.

Once while on Gaia, I got about twelve porno site popups. When I closed out of the first three it shut down Firefox and it didn't wanna start back up for a while.

Sneaky Gaia...

It's one thing for Gaia to cover their asses legally, I can understand that and I know that every company does it. It is another thing entirely for Gaia to buy ads from known malware distributors. Gaia does have a responsibility to keep their customers safe. Actually, that may not be the best way to put it. I'm not entirely sure if Gaia is legally bound to keep its users safe from malware on the site, but at the very least it is horrible company policy.

I've only had one bad ad appear on Gaia (Trojan Horse). It would be nice if Gaia fixed the bad ads.
