I don't really have a preference, but I can imagine the white space gets really annoying on a seriously huge monitor (I only have a regular huge monitor razz ). I've wondered from time to time why Gaia isn't centered, though, because there are certain parts of the site in which the white space looks particularly bad-- such as on the post preview/edit screen I'm looking at right now.

So because your fine with it makes the OP's opinion less valid?

nah, but I think he is asking for something that is really unnecessary, IMO

Well, there are a number of people who already agree with him in this thread, and as CleoSombra said, it's not a new complaint. There are other people who wouldn't mind the change.
Have you try using Ctrl + ?

it fits my screen just perfect.
just because you decided to get a luxury, that doesn't mean the whole site should change for you User Image

If they centered the site, it would still fit your screen perfectly.

@OP: Have you heard of the BetterGaia addon? It fixes the centering problem, for now until the devs decide it's something they want to deal with.

oh I know that, and I know what he means, I don't own a big screen but some family member do, and I know, I have seem what he means, I just don't think it is THAT necessary IMO.
I am sure it will fit and everything, but to each his own.
If they do center it, good, if they don't, is not really necessary.

Firefox isn't the only browser. Opera, Safari, Internet Explorer. I'm currently at a location where I cannot use Firefox (I do use it at home, however).

On the topic of the "luxury".

Ahem, all new monitors are widescreen these days, the same goes with TVs. 4:3 CRT's are out of production and 4:3 LCDs are slowly being phased out.

Have you tried knowing the difference between centering and zooming?

Well yeah, it is the new technology, but it is still a luxury, since I barely know anyone with a wide screen. Only a few people have them, but like I said, I am not here to argue, I am just saying it is kinda pointless, but if you make the site center, it's fine for me, I just think gaia has better things to worry about rather than centering the site 3nodding

Interesting. I can't think of a single friend who doesn't use widescreen.

Even my mum and dad use widescreen monitors .__.; But then it's not just for widescreens. It's for anyone who's screen resolution is higher than 1024x768.

I don't know that centering a site is that difficult either, but then it's been awhile since I did HTML, and that was on a far simpler page than Gaia.

Probably for a similar reason as yours: Personal preference or whatever you want to call it.

I wasn't aware some people preferred 20cm of white space on their monitor.

Well, then all you can do is wait months/years till they center it. If they'll ever do that.

Maybe there could be an option, Centered and "Normal" so everyone's happy.

Edit;

I don't know if they can do an Option thing. Hmmm.

no one at my school has one, nor do the school, neither does my family, it's mostly laptops.
I only know two people who own them, but they work for a company who makes websites, so yeah, just like O.P. said: not everyone uses widescreens, just like not everyone uses firefox.

Yes. I do prefer that extra space off to the right and as I said earlier, I don't want the site centered because that just strikes me as a low-content, cheap, spammy site.
