I DON'T D:
This better be an changeable option like screen res. if they make it >.>;
Well, that's your problem, correct?

So just because you have a big screen monitor and I don't, ******** me I don't get any say cause I'm "behind the times"? how come you all can BAWW for what you want but I can't voice the parallel argument of people with smaller screens?
How about this...the fact that it isn't centered is YOUR problem. Deal.

Yeah, and many other's problem too. I guess it didn't occur to you, but centring the site on a 4:3 monitor isn't going to change much. In fact, nothing would change at all, for you.

So we both have problems we want addressed, don't belittle mine. And you can tell me with actually explaining instead of sounding like a snobby a$$. I didn't just say...NO! I gave reasons and maybe a way about it I would like and some feedback for what I didn't like about it, as well as why I would want an option. I thought they seemed decent >.>; *it was edited because it posted to soon the first time*
Could have just said "well, it wouldn't change for you" instead of that it's my problem. I don't know the questions to ask, obviously if I don't have either screen or experience with a larger one. When giving an idea you have to be prepared to explain questions and address feedback in a way that people will maybe understand you idea. Not everyone knows everything you know and can read your mind.

Snobby a**? I wasn't aware that alignments were so damn hard to understand.

This is left aligned.

This is centred.

If the site fits your screen now on your monitor, nothing will change when it is centred.

Standard Definiton/4:3 = Square.
High Definition/Widescreen/16:9 = Rectangle.

That's common knowledge.

Not everyone knows the same information as you, you know neutral
And yeah, telling me it's my problem because I have a small computer sounds snobby to me, as well as saying it seems like extra 'unneeded' work to make it an option with out giving detail why. Now I understand much better, you meant unneeded as in it won't change for some...but it only sounded as if you meant you didn't care if people got an option but you want to extra work for your view.
Thanks for explaining it, now why can't you do it in a way that's actually civil?
And I know what left and centered look like :/ I want my page to remain left centered...is there anyone in here that could explain it kindly what it would look like to me if it were changed?

Edit: It's not common knowledge to everyone, and acting as such will only deter people from listening to you.

Also, I have a wide screen on my laptop and only have a little bit of stuff to the right, nothing like the screen shots...so, no idea there.
I have like 3 inches extra space in the header above where the words forums > GCD are listed, so it would just mush it all back to the left enough to have forums not so far away and the space gone? See, like I said if it's centered like myspace I don't mind....stuff from one side to the other. It's Solia like layouts I don't like where it's , like the edit screenie, just stucj in the middle with color on either side.

Now if you hadn't acted like I was an idiot I would be inclined to discuss that and maybe actually like the idea.

Yay! Badly done paint edits time:

The view now for me:

How it would maybe look if changed?

What I'm not so fond of and wouldn't want: [new layout basically]
http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b162/OctoberFrost/donotlike.jpg

That's basically my problem ^ I unno HOW it would look to me at all,I was just confused and you could have explained nice enough or asked what I meant first, before telling me it's my problem and assuming I know everything or am stupid for not knowing. I thought you meant the evn bigger screens I see nowadays as well >.>

I think I like the forums on the left is what my thing is, but I don't know how to fix the space on the right with out screwing that up. But anyway, take a look at Gonline.com....I think it might be what you mean you want? ^-^
Yes, Gonline's centred layout was what I was getting at.
Bumped back to the front page for more opinions, most obviously.
I also have a widescreen monitor, and while I'm used to all the dead space on the right-hand side, I do think it would be MUCH more aesthetically pleasing if it were centered. I don't really see any reason NOT to center it.

Yes, yes it would be.

If they do make it centered, there should be an option to disable it, for users who don't like it or have small screens. Or they could just install a Gaia-Add On (yes, not everyone uses Firefox, I know) that makes pages un-center.
I think Gaia looks better centered.

I think that, with the way technology is heading, and the phasing out of certain types of monitor types, that Gaia being centered would not be a bad thing. It would make the glaring whitespace that blinds folks much less, leave space for potential advertisements should Gaia choose to do so, yet have no effect on those with older monitors. My monitor is by no means wide screen, but I use BetterGaia nonetheless. (it is 1280 x 1024 however) The site just looks better centered to me. It's a fact that Widescreen is becoming the norm, why not make the adjustment?

jenzee
I would give the soul of my left kidney to center this site.

crying

o.O you kidney has a soul?

Yours doesn't? o.O

But, yeah, generally centring for those with larger 4:3 screens also works.
Back to the first page you go.

I hate hate hate the 4 inches of dead space!

I just thought I would post a screencapture of what I see to show how bad it is :3
          I have one of the biggest resolutions available, so;

Every single page looks like that. Ewww. And because I'm on Gaia so much
I hardly actually use most of my screen. It was pointless paying $1200 for this
laptop when I could have just got the smaller one and this site would look good.

Oh man, that's way worse that on my resolution of 1440x900. What is the resolution of your monitor? Is it, perhaps, a 22" monitor?
