I've recently started back up using Gaia again, and I must say there is a minor annoyance. I never noticed back on my 4:3 monitor, but now...

I use a widescreen monitor, and wow. 1/3 of site is pretty much just blank space.

Never thought of doing something like this?.

I don't like a ton a empty white space on my screen, get with the times Gaia.

I find it strange that a lot of you don't want it centered. This is how I imagine it. Only fixed width stuff like the forum index will be centered and the background will fill the whole page. It's way better than having everything sticking to the left side. I have about 450 pixels (I actually measured it so I'm not exaggerating) of blank space on my right side right now with my screen resolution of 1440x990.

For 1024x768, centering the site will just shift it right by a maximum of 10 pixels. It won't really do much.

P.S. Sorry my edit isn't exactly centered. I suck. >_<

This isn't a new complaint. We've vocalized about not liking all the white space before.

But Gaia has decided to go "minimalistic." <<

I thought this was in the works? Or at least on some sort of list.

I'd like this too.

Having this dirty great gap of white nothing taking up about half my screen is... offputting, to say the least. Or at least, that's the case when editing posts.

Having paragraphs stretched out when reading? Even worse ; ;

Having websites centered just bothers me. I'd rather we left the site the way it is instead of centering it. To me centered websites say "low content". xp

Well, I remember last time I was on Gaia that it was still the same. It's been an awful long time since I came on (2 years or so, whenever we got the latest layout, aside from the new navigation bar above) too, so I think that's pretty damn slack.

It's not that hard to centre an entire site.

I agree. I really dislike the huge empty space off to my right side. It's not very difficult to center the layout. Also, most sites who have fixed width layouts center them. Gaia should do the same~

There's a Firefox addon, BetterGaia, that centers the site, among other things.

Myself, I don't really like centered sites, so I'd rather have it remain the way it is.

I actually don't mind the empty space to the right. If I resize my windows, it gives me enough room to view two or more windows at once. That is, I can keep the first one maximized, open a second window, and have it to the right, so it won't obscure what I'm doing on Gaia. Which is great, because I often have a dozen or so windows open at a time+browser tabs.

Btw, make a poll.

Post a comment in my journal entry for May 8, 2009 if you liked the new Star Trek movie! heart

While it would be nice to see this as a standard site feature, if you have Firefox, you can download BetterGaia, and it'll do that for you.

Of course, not everyone uses FireFox.

I could be a douche and tell you to buy and 2nd monitor (like how most are just directing people to BetterGaia), but...

Also, created poll.

This is a signature, you like it? Yes? That's what I thought.

it fits my screen just perfect.
just because you decided to get a luxury, that doesn't mean the whole site should change for you

So because your fine with it makes the OP's opinion less valid?

If they centered the site, it would still fit your screen perfectly.

@OP: Have you heard of the BetterGaia addon? It fixes the centering problem, for now until the devs decide it's something they want to deal with.
