Nobody can claim that most Gaians don't like Facebook without taking a proper survery.
I for one like Facebook because most of my real life friends have one rather than a Gaia.

I'm not saying I approve of the application, but seriously, stop complaining that Gaia is working hard trying to make new features for their members.

And considering the concensus was the last time Facebook was in the picture [See, Site Header Redesign] The answer was NO.

So No. I would rather not see a tasteless bland social networking site on Gaia because that's what Gaia isn't.

I'm not all that fond of the idea.

All of my friends on facebook are real life friends who don't like thing like Gaia. It would be of no use to me.

Not only that, but don't a lot of the users here complaining about Gaia becoming too much like facebook? Wouldn't that be making it worse?

Reading the post again it's different from what you are linking because it's app for Facebook. Meaning if a Gaian who uses Facebook (surprise surpise I do) it'd at least be "off" Gaia so to speak. So if anything it's more of Gaia being on Facebook then the other way around. Sure there's the whole "keep Gaia separate" but I do believe its voluntary and with Facebook having privacy features then it might not open the door to privacy concerns (since ultimately information can be limited based on what is given). Unless there are "script kiddies" running amok but then that's an issue on Gaia as well so it's not necessarily pertaining to Facebook itself.

Instead of harping on Facebook why not harp on not liking the proposed site design? I mean from that aspect I can understand why because it's cumbersome and doesn't flow with rest of the site (as in preferring to have all that info at the top versus the bottom).. but not because it's Facebook.

But meh I don't want to impede on your opinion.

This is a feature I would use, if only for the gold incentives. I'm generally proud of my avatars, but I'm very aware that my *ahem* Gaia addiction looks rather silly to my non-member friends and family.

(It would be very nice if the gold incentives made up for the impending embarrassment, but I understand why that may not happen.)

You're not a judge, but if you're gonna judge me...

I have a bad feeling about this... I use facebook, but rarely ever use anything on it. I hate their terms of service, so it's a wonder that I'm on the thing to begin with. I wouldn't use this... and I personally wouldn't encourage anything that connects Gaia to a site that claims it has every right to keep any sort of information you feed it indefinitely.

I'm begging you.

You're already started taking steps toward it. What do I mean? Well, look at banners and stuff that advertise Gaia as a "mini-you" site. Avatars on the front, logged out page, and in banners often look realistic/normal - and that's NOT how 99.9% of users customize their avatars. Your normalizing the NPCs, too. Sasha looks like some ditzy chick straight out of MTV's "The Hills."

We're not myspace or facebook. We don't want to be. Don't forget your roots. :/

Using Gaia isn't exactly something I advertise. sweatdrop

But as for the "Gaians don't like Facebook", it's more like "SF'ers don't like Facebook". It's common opinion around here that Facebook/Myspace/Twitter/etc. are exactly the opposite of what they want, but lots of users on the site actually DO use them.

And this isn't making Gaia like Facebook, it's making Gaia compatible with Facebook for those who want it.
