I can see the reasoning behind it, I suppose... but we have Gaian journals for sharing things with our friends, and Facebook is stalkerish enough as it is, WITHOUT encroaching on Gaia. I dunno about everyone else, but I like that my Gaia and my Facebook have nothing to do with each other. I hope that since you're obviously going to implement this no matter what, that you'll have as little "Facebook" stuff on Gaia as possible.

Once again I'm left wondering why this is a project.

To be blunt, seeing as Gaia's staff were unable to maintain the previous attempt to 'couple' with the blog sites Bebo and Facebook with the OMG widget (to the point where Facebook removed it, and while Bebo still has it, it has been totally neglected and needs attention!) I can only see this going much the same way.

Bebo's OMG widget had been affected by scriptors, who'd left their 'statues' behind. They were only removed after who knows long as I informed a Developer, who either resolved it themselves or passed the information on. It isn't a good sign when the creators of said feature can't even perform basic maintenance or even check on their creation.

You've tried this before, and didn't devote enough resource to make it work, so lets not make the same mistake and write this idea off before more time gets wasted.

Seriously, if some of the staff has this much time to spare to come up with an influx of new content, can you please spend some time working on the existing features that are in need of attention?

To all the people who say Gaians don't like facebook. Speak for yourself please because I use facebook. I am social with people I know.

I used to have a Facebook, but after the ToS fiasco, I decided to delete it.
To tell you the truth, I hardly even used it. I find it stupid.
In my eyes, this feature seems rather unnecessary.
Can't you just put on Facebook what you did on Gaia?

Okay, I want to add my opinion here.

I personally dislike Facebook, even though I use it (I only joined to get ahold of someone who is hard to contact, but now he's on gaia). In my opinion Gaia is wayyyyy better than Facebook.

Okay, with that said, I have a brief concern with the whole issue.
Looking at the flow chart it seems that we would be giving facebook access to our gaian accounts, vice/versa. Would this not put our gaia accounts at a bigger risk for being gotten into/stolen, by other people?

I do have a facebook, but I'm not sure if I will use this feature. Most of my friends on facebook wouldn't be interested, and honestly, facebook puts a feed for everything you do anyway, so I have a feeling this would just add to the clutter.
I'll have to wait until this feature comes out really in order to decide whether or not I'll use it.

Please, someone on the dev team see this and realize that just because CNN and other sites have facebook connect, doesn't mean that Gaia needs it.

One. I have a few stalkers in my life, some of which get info from my myspace and facebook regardless of privatizing it. I don't need my estranged father, my super-religous siblings, or hell, even some of my IRL friends seeing via my status messages (that Gaia will take over, as that's what FBconnect does) of what I'm doing on Gaia.

Two: I use Gaia to get away from my real life. I use Facebook to get in touch with my Real Life friends as they live in a different state or country. Not all of them use gaia and a lot of them I don't want them to know I use Gaia.


Also, WHY OF ALL THINGS, DO WE NEED TO RELAY TO FACEBOOK WHAT THE MY GAIA LANDING PAGE ALREADY TELLS US?! WHY BEAT THE DEAD HORSE IN THE MOUTH!?


LEAVE FACEBOOK ANYTHING OFF GAIA. Actually....LEAVE BLAND, TASTELESS SOCIAL NETWORKING NONSENSE OFF GAIA.


It's bad enough you wanted to implement a failing footer (thank you for thinking otherwise) and it's bad enough we have a stalker-status feature no matter WHERE we go on the site.

facebook has a lot of issues on their apps and TOS which implies that they can sell everything you post there. plus stalkers. And this is a lot unfair for those ones (like me) who will never have a facebook account. First gambit for cash now facebook for gold, stop it, please, stop it.

i have toolbar installed and it grants like 21 gold more or less on once in a while, not 1k for telling a complete stranger what am I doing right now.

So is it actually an issue of "I don't want/need facebook and don't want to use their feature" but more like "I use the toolbar and only get 21 gold. That's not fair that those who use the facebook feature will possibly get more gold." It seems that there's more hostility over the gold amount then using the app.

Regarding privacy Facebook does have a feature to make the profile private.

Your not being discluded from anything because you chose to pass up that feature but it's there for you to use if you wish. Keeping you from partaking in this feature against your will would be the unfair part but that's not the case.

I agree. The idea that applies to what Leo said also applies to the Facebook app. People who use Facebook and use Gaia might use it. Using it is entirely voluntary and should at least be tried out for those who do use Facebook. I dunno I guess I have this silly belief that people's tastes are varied and thus should have features now and again catered to those tastes..

yeah, i definitely don't like the idea of giving gold to people who use something that i wouldn't touch if my life depended on it. this is just really unnecessary, and sounds more like a ploy to try and get those non-gaian facebook friends to join gaia out of curiosity. it's a waste of resources.

Believe it or not there are many Gaians who use Facebook.I prefer Facebook over sites like Myspace etc. So it doesn't make sense on why it'd be a big deal that Gaia would want to do a feature that includes something you don't like or use.. I mean this is going to be something else that is voluntary to use. See Death's quote.. pretty much sums it up.

Regarding privacy, I mean really now. There's lots of ways of making yourself private on here and on other sites. Facebook does have the ability to make profiles private. I know have I changed the last name to make myself harder to search.. There are ways. That would easily cut out all the "stalkers" and if it set to friends only then maybe there should be more thought into who to befriend? Knowing real life identity with a Gaian username doesn't do much at all. You're only as private as what you post on Gaia anyways so knowing a real name wouldn't change much unless you're handing out your phone number etc but that'd be a personal issue though.

well i do have a facebook acount.....but i dont think ill use this app.....sounds like it might take some of my personal info...... and i dont want 2 have that happen...but then again i might.......i dont know!!! im confusiled!!! confused
