FACEBOOK! APPLE? WHERE DO WE STOP?!?

Has anybody noticed that the new (newer) owners of Gaiaonline have been focusing on face book lately? Even our holiday based gaia events have facebook connections. Demonbusters would have been much better if the admin hadn't linked up with Facebook! I can only do 2 missions because i dont have a working facebook account and one of those two i have to sacrifice gold, a small amount but still. The event is only a small part of it. I for one think that Gaia should completely get rid of the facebook connection. It is seriously lowering the quality of this site. It has deterred some people away because they dont have facebook.

Now i hear that Gaia is coming out with an Iphone/Itouch app? Do these people not realize that the "modifications" made by these outside sources discriminate against those who dont have a face book, iphone/itouch? When does this stop? When the only people who can play are people with the newest technology, finances, and belonging to the most popular social networking systems?
When do we say its gone to far?!?!?

So my fellow Gaians I ask you what are your thoughts on this?

I think that the Apple/ITouch thing's a hoax, I have yet to hear of it. Where did you hear that from? As for FaceBook, adblock and enough complaining in Site Feedback fixes that. It's not like you get anything on Gaia for joining FaceBook anyway.

And while I hate FB with a passion, it's stopped bothering me. They moved the tab out of the way, I dont have to deal with that annoying popup anymore, so Im okay with it.

My thoughts are:

1) You are overreacting. There hasn't been nearly as much facebook focus as you think. Anyway, neither site makes money from this, except that now they're both effectively advertising each other and hopefully drawing in more users/potential customers. It's been around a month or so; they always put a focus on new things. In any case, they made the facebook tab much smaller, which pleased users.

2) Users have been asking for an iPod/what the hell ever application. I never understood why; iPod needs to get better internet ability if you ask me, but users have started several threads in the SF asking for such a thing. Gaia's answering it, if this is actually happening. Which actually shows us that the staff is paying attention, so anyone who keeps complaining about that can please shut up now.

3) I do not intend to get a facebook account. I don't intend to get an iPhone. And yet I can still access Gaia's site and do the things I want to. It's not discriminating against me; I'm still able to do all the things I've been doing. You are overreacting, PuppetMaster.

New owners?

All an itouch/iphone app will do is let you post and basically everything you can do on the main site. Since the mobile site is pretty lacking and the Facebook thing is for people who want to connect their FB accounts. It isn't necessary to use and I haven't seen any of this "lowering" quality.

I never see the problem with FB..people just seem to make a mountain out of a mole hill when it comes to FB. I honestly don't see how its "lowing the quality of Gaia" as you mention. I tend to never notice any FB thing until someone mentions it..and even right now I don't even see the FB tab/logo on my screen and no, I have not adblocked it. You can easily get 100 followers without spending a penny nor ever even using FB. I got all of my followers through the link that they gave us and got 100 followers on this and a mule account in under 4hrs combined.

Source on where you heard that Gaia is getting an itouch/phone/whatever app? As far as I know your the first person to say something about it. If its your friends then don't trust them..

Well FB doesn't do anything to gaia just gaia made a fan account on FB and FB just ask them to advertise there site long they allow gaia to advertise on there site FB don't even have anything to do with gaia all it does is allow them advertise on there site to get more members.



About the apple itouch thing what ever they not going be like the new owners of gaia just gaia might want them help advertise and stuff but i too never heard of that and you might just went through a forum about people want it or someone starting a rumor or friends smile I don't think they be able to do that though too. Well they might sinice verizon advertise with gaia too but they stop now.

Okay for those who think im overreacting i just made this for fun. I wanted to see yalls reaction and see if i can get any supporters. appearantly not-insert sad face here- -oh wait! crying -Ta-da)
I was going to throw a few absurd comparissons to satan and hypocrisy but felt that it would sound to much like i was trying to be Rush Lymbal.

I am serious though about the facebook thing and im currently running off what i have talked with some people in town about. The itouch/phone ap was something that came up in a survey and a few other things sponsered by gaia(Im not even sure how i got to it ot be honest.)

As for the new owners a year(?) ago the original owner(?) sold the company and at first when you logged in it said you were connecting to their server its gone now but its still ran by them. Everything has stayed the same and the people are trying hard to improve the system and make it more fun however the original feel is mostly gone.

All in all i think the whole gaia/facebook thing is not that great but im worried that the website is going to try in do to much... ya know?

There are no new owners. Gaia gained a CEO who invested in the company in May 2006. Which well predates your account.

And there was no such "connecting to the server" webpage. Are you thinking of the OmniDrink April Fool's joke? Good god.

There is no guaranteed iPod app. The devs have even said they'd like to have one, but it's very very low priority since they don't have the time or particularly see the need.

In case you haven't noticed, Site Feedback takes you seriously. If you have a legitimate complaint, make it, but if you don't, then don't waste your time.
Secondly, I believe the name is "Rush Limbaugh." I googled it to make sure I was right.

I have a facebook. It's linked to my Gaia account. I have gotten nothing, and expect to get nothing, from it. It's possible to do the entire event without using Facebook, because I did.

If Gaia wants to make an app for iPod Touch and iPhone users, more power to them. Browsers on those are insanely slow, and, like it's been said before, users have been asking for an app to do things like check and respond to PMs and change their avatar on their mobile device. It's not really 'discriminating'- you don't call the entirety of Gaia discriminating to users who don't have PCs because they're not providing an offline service for all of them as well.

There is a way to be good again.

I hate facebook with a passion ever since I signed up and gaia spammed my facebook pages and that was annoying as hell. So I had to stop it, its embarassing really. And I think ONE facebook icon is fine, not several. Like when you log in, when you sign up, all the time on gaia in the gaia bar and now in events. x-x I have addblock and I dont like looking at a white space... And if you did this for fun. This forum is very serious and people will react.
