Has anyone thought that... the new Prom Items were actually a trial to see if Good Cash Shop items sell more than RIGs?

I mean, all those items would be suspected to be in a RIG. I mean, look at Wed to Darkness! That could have been in the RIG! But they gave it for 749GC.

Maybe... the prom items were a test?

My guess. But I'm pretty excited for this RIG. I should get a cash card tomorrow.

    IAWTC.
    I rather have a RIG.
Just for the fun of it. I like opening it and being all gonk / eek at what I get.

But I always wait til the items I want deflate and buy them from the vend.
I don't have the "GOTTA HAVE IT NOW" syndrome that most Gaians have when it comes to new items.
Plus, I can get a EI for $10 with 20+ poses in it and, from what is being posted, paying $10 for a 10 or less pose item is better?

If they're a test, they're a poorly-run one. The items are great, but the quantity and range of styles is in no way comparable to a RIG and the items haven't been out long enough to get any kind of reliable data.
There hasn't been a RIG-scale CS update since...well, since the CS OPENED.

Then can you come up with a better test?

And what I'm saying is WHAT IF those items WERE going to be in the new RIG, but they decided to just put those in the cash shop directly to see how many people would buy the items.

It probably was a test, to see how much they WOULD have gotten if they just put the items DIRECTLY into the Cash Shop instead of a RIG.

That's what I'm saying. Just to see the numbers. Hell, it'll help with the inflation where the items wouldn't be over a million.

I don't care how successful they are, there needs to be a balance. It's not like we are always going to fall for the allure of an RIG.

I'm much more likely to spend Gaia cash on a Starfleet uniform than on a seafoam gown. THe prom items were nice, but they aren't something that users have been wanting for ages.

I say that Gaia should just take a chance with these items and put them directly into the Cash Shop and leave them there for a long time. I'm willing to bet that users would grab those items in a heartbeat, and probably go for duplicates as well.

Yes, I can come up with a better test. The test would be releasing a full range of RIG items as direct-CS items, and leaving them in the store for the same period of time as the RIG would be.

You can't get appropriate figures by releasing a different number and smaller range of items and making a decision based on three days' worth of sales.

If it was a test then I would say it was not run long enough to be a fair test. The RIGs are often out for 2-3 weeks while the prom items have been out only a few days. Of course the RIGs are going to look like they make more money if you only look at a days profit.

This RIG has been in the works for some time. Yesterday (or the day before? days run together while camping for me ^^; ) I saw in the GCD someone found the market listing for the bundle.

They didn't give there test enough time to tell AND they didn't put out as many items (or even the most requested items) as in a RIG so there numbers would be skewed all around. Different people want different things in an item.

If this was there test, it was flawed big time.

Pardon my being cynical, but I bet that if the prom items were a test, it was purposely skewed. That way Gaia could say "See? We tried releaseing items to the CS and they didn't make as much money as the RIGs!"

I know I lurk more than post but I still consider myself an SFer! gonk And I'm not ashamed. Please don't speak for everyone.

I happen to love RIGs..... even though I blow way too much money on them.

I thought it was understood that in order to battle the AIing of things like Mercury's Moon, more RIGs would have to be released to make them a little more common.

Or they could just release them into the CS.

******** item rarity. I'm willing to bet that most people want items, such as Mercury's Moon, for aesthetic purposes, not because it's super rare.

Actually, I want it because it's super pretty. C:

Well, I guess they should give it a try. I mean, at least three out of nine gaians WOULD buy the wink item if it came out (me being one of them.)
But I kinda doubt they'd do it since it would be reaally popular..

User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show. Not to mention the items released in the CS weren't on the same scale as the Warmths of Apollo or the Mercury Moons, items that were the biggest draw from an RIG. The Wed to Darkness was the closest we got, so we should really just evaluate that item's success.

I'm trying REALLY hard not to think that way but the way things are going, spending 30$ every 2 months on WoW is looking MUCH better then spending 50$ or more in roughly the same amount of time for Gaia and not getting the stuff I want.

I'd actually probably spend less then half as much on WoW a year then I would on Gaia.....

You misread me.

They obviously want the items in RIGs, they boost the sales. But at the same time the drop rate for totally new items isn't that great. The more RIGs they release, the more common they get. So they stay in the RIGs but there's more in the system.

Remember when the WTF hat was released? It was hella expensive, but it's price dropped with every new RIG that was added.

I have to agree with UPC's cynicism. It was posted elsewhere that that may have been the "trial" for direct-to CS release of RIG items, and I can only imagine how skewed it truly was, just to "prove that a direct-to CS release is not what pays the bills." Though the fact that they did not give a matching time-frame as the RIG's makes their argument there moot in all fairness. =/

Lol, aestheic purposes is just my fancy way of saying "Ooo, that's a shiny pretty item! ME WANT!"

On topic though, agreed! I wish they would just take the chance and release these items directly to the Cash Shop.

IF YOU GUYS REALLY REALLY WANT THE RIGS TO STOP THEN YOU WILL HAVE TO STOP BUYING THEM IN ADDITION TO YOUR COMPLAINING.

If you are going to complain about it back it up and do not buy them, you CANNOT expect them to pull something they are making money off of.

I stopped buying them after the Emerald Seed, but it doesn't much matter. When one of us stops buying, more take our place. =/
