It's a nice idea but I would only go with it if you're planning on rotating a number of different front page designs -- so when you go to the page you sometimes see this one and sometimes the forum one and sometimes something else.

Otherwise it makes it look like the whole site is a Something-mon (Pokemon, Digimon, you know) fanart page. You'll lose people who don't draw or dont' have scanners (or don't like cute little anime mascots because not everyone does).

I likw the new page design in that it looks less like gaia's trying to be a myspace/facebook wanna be site for big grows up little teenagers. truth and reality many people may use gaia for a hangout site as an end result but not advertising ourselves as that will bring in an initial better population. I also like how the avatar atop the page looks more like something you'd see from someone in the forums and not a n00b who runs around in donation items and cash shop items all day bumping the chatterbox. If our orecious newblings see that gaians dress like n00bs on the first page then they have a lot longer to go <and so do we> before they can start dressing in respectable gaian pixels, though given many of htem might not ever change, no influence at all to their first view of a typical avatar. Over all I like this start page. o3o and if more artists join hten I can get more OC artsies, no?

I like it how it seems more open. The design is still Modern but is focusing on one main idea: Having a Safe and Friendly place to hang out and chat.
