I personally agree with the premise of this thread.
I could care less about both the skins, but I do believe there should be an all or nothing.
I understand why Gaia is taking away the losers' skins. In the past, most people, including my self, stop going to the event when they have earned all the achievements. This means that an event starts strong on the first day, but gradually declines as the event wears on and people get the items for themselves and, in some occasions, their mules.
But to take away an already given item, does not go with the spirit of Gaia at all. I would think that event items should stay in the accounts, but the "winners" get something extra. Rather it is a bit more gold in their account or a special event related item.
Now, if the the skins were the intentional end of game prize, it would have been much more prudent to do something such as this:
This senario would bring about the optimum in fairness. Though, still someone is going to be unhappy. But I think that the skins being a prize to not be handed out to the end would have been the most prudent course of action.
It would have certainly gotten people stressed out over a bundle of pixels.

What Gaia Could Have Said
Welcome to the Halloween Event! This will be a competition between B.O.O and S.I.N. There will be event items given out at hallmark achievements, but if your side wins, you will receive a super special skin that relates to your side. (Don't show the skins, make it a surprise because some people joined their sides because they liked the skin.)
This senario would bring about the optimum in fairness. Though, still someone is going to be unhappy. But I think that the skins being a prize to not be handed out to the end would have been the most prudent course of action.
