Even after reading through some post, and reading the front page. I still can't seem to grasp what a Floating Footer is, and how it would effect the site as a whole.

You mentioned something about the Maps taking up bandwidth can causing lag? Perhaps put more emphasis on that, and where it could be moved to. . Even though I like staring at the map occasionally, sometimes I click on it when I don't want to - so it is actually quite annoying in it's current spot.

I am not signed up to Facebook or MySpace. So I have no idea what people are comparing it to, nor do I see what the real problem is.

All I hoped for, is that the Floating Footer isn't a bloating program that slows down for people.

Good luck with brainstorming something new, or at least re imagining the current Footer.

I'm not too crazy about the footer idea either.

I was figuring...how about moving the shortcut, mail, buddy list and gold notification right under the logo and avi.That would open a bit of space, if that's possible.

I have no idea how that would actually work though, because you'd have to make the header bigger or something...*brain is hurt*

Even just taking the map off would make a lot more room and even just taking off the words "buddy list" and instead just have the GIM icon and the number of people online beside it it.

I don't know why they say they didn't release a footer because I clearly remember seeing it, disliking it and disable it this morning :/
I prefer to have my links where they should be - at the top of the page where they are easily spotted. Besides, I'm using BetterGaia with a floating drop-down menu so that I can reach my links anywhere on a page.
(it's actually even better now after gaia's latest update, since the floating drop-down turned invicible somehow XD but if I hower over the spot, I can still reach my links :3 )

Maybe gaia's developers should take a look at BetterGaia and it's thread where users comes up with ideas to improve it? At it's worst, BetterGaia still wins over gaia's current layout. Especially since you can choose nav. bar colours and even get the old nav. bar back! *huggles nav. bar*
