Hm, the changes don't look at all vibrant or community-oriented to me; I hope that the future changes you're saving space for are going to be in the very near future. The sectioned-off logo with empty space below it and the rectangular space where the map had been make the header as a whole look half-done.
As to the footer business, I really appreciate that you've decided to leave PM notices in the speech bubble, and would like to ask that trade notifications be left there as well. As the bank link has already been removed from the drop down menus and the header map is leaving, making trades will become a phenomenal inconvenience to those of us (like myself) who will chose not to use the footer.
Also, I have no idea why the page is stretched horizontally in the mock, but I can't help but notice the footer is stretched with it. You may want to address this before putting it out -- if it doesn't have a set size or float horizontally as well as vertically, anyone using it and viewing a stretched page will miss their updates.
EDIT: After reading through the rest of the thread, I was reminded some people have different screen resolutions. I dumb. Still though, it's a little strange that the footer adjusts, but the header does not. Makes them clash.
--Something really bothered me about the logo, but I couldn't quite put my finger on it. Llorelei got it down, though:

Edit: I also dislike the Logo box... It makes Gaia seem more.. hemmed in, rather than free.. if you know what I mean? And Gaia is supposed to be about the freedom to express yourself, right?
Gaia's been put in a box.
