The floating header looks too distracting for me to deal with. It would draw my eyes right at the bottom of the webpage. I like it how it is with just a bubble pop-up for PMs/Announcements instead of two things to let me know what's going on at the same time. If there is an option to disable it then that would be great. Other then the floating footer, I like the rest of the new things.

and I can't understand why you would get rid of the towns backgrounds in the header as WELL as the map. Gaia is a world, and I am sad to see that you are going to be getting rid of that immersive part of it.

Congrats, guys! You continue to sterilize and take away the quirkiness of the site, for the sake of making it look like every other bland social networking site out there.

The floating footer idea sounds horribly annoying. As I said before, the notifications is just fine as it is. It's neat and organised. Scrolling isn't that inconvient at all. It doesn't need to be changed!

Now, I must say I view this site in 1280x960 resolution so there is always a big space off to the right of my screen (unless I'm on the forums) so in the picture, all the buttons fit into that space so I would easily see the bubbles against the dark background.

The screenshot was taken at a larger resolution.
The minimum resolution for the footer is 1024x768.

Most of it doesn't look to be too terrible, to be honest I'd like to be able to use for a while and see if I like it too.

But I cannot possibly emphasize this enough. DO NOT POP OUR BUBBLES. If you're keeping the announcement bubbles there is no reason to get rid of the others. You have tried to remove the bubbles time after time and we have set fire to you every time you tried. Leave the bubbles be.

I find the present layout most convenient and functional, is a redesign necessary?
I would like if, when you update, you include options to avoid invasion of privacy ie that I can choose whether or not anyone can see whether or not I am online - even friends. No offence to friends, just the principle.
I also agree with others that I would prefer Gaia's design to be somewhat unique, and not generic and bland. I have no problem with redesign as such, if it is a significant functional improvement and retains some Gaia flavour.

As long as we can cut off the friends module. Looks big, bulky, and annoying. And I don't like the idea of a "floating footer" or my notifications showing up down there. Even if a bubble or whatever does pop up, I'll still probably miss it.

Just please, I beg of you, make it pretty and colorful and not bland and ugly like the vast majority of the site design.
