Instead of that unattractive blue area in the picture that contains the username, gold and cash amounts, what about taking the opportunity to not only give it some character, but also tie in zOMG by using the wing panel:


Perhaps the username and logout link in the top, then gold and cash amounts in the second area and then PMs in the third one. One of the crescent buttons could go to the person's Gaia profile, while the other goes to the account page.

I somewhat like this idea, and somewhat don't. I know I'm in the minority, but I like the general idea of a footer- we can get to the place to write new PMs a bit faster than we can now, and see if there's anything new on subscribed topics when we log in. And if the quick links offers a link to guilds that we tell it to put on there, it'd be even better. smile
What I DON'T like about it is that it's supposed to eliminate PM/friend notifications in the bubble altogether. It's easier to see them up there than on the footer exclusively. If they could be in both places, then I'd be entirely in support of the footer- I really don't see the harm in it.

As for the removal of the map.. I'll miss it, as it's nice to look at, but I can live without it.

What I DON'T like is the place where the logo was moved to, and the new color scheme around our gold/username. sad . The logo looks awful in the spot it was moved to in the preview, and the teal color clashes with the rest of the layout. The color it is now is fine with me- it's basic, but it works. smile .

How can i trust in such a hideous and treacherous staff who doesn't care about USERS? have you ever noticed that NOBODY LIKES PETS HERE (we have them already --& FISHES) Also our avies will be dead if they only bust a bubble each time that b***h of Flin (i hate her, and now I hate her even more) has an announcement to say us. I love when my friends send me a PM and my avie says me HEY I GOT A NEW PM! the cold footer won't. Also it will be as nasty as gator was on the beginings of the internet. We can't trust such greedy and careless staff. so don't ask stupid questions

Not everyone hates the idea of pets, I would LOVE them, but then im a lover of animals anyway so anything cute and cuddly would be alright by me...^^;

Here here. Please don't ask us to trust you (Gaia as a whole) when that catastrophe just unfurled. :/ Users were practically thrown to the dogs on that one. Those sponsorships should have been thoroughly screened when the age group on here isn't one that is very conscious about these things when "free" Cash is involved.

Regardless, I agree with people saying that the teal color doesn't match with anything. I LOVE the idea of having color in it, but please pick something that ties in. D:

I have a sneaking suspicion that it's too convenient to keep opinions at a low number, though, and I don't like assuming things like that.

Nope. Sorry. I can't just trust you with this ugly, stupid overhaul.

Why? Because I like my header as is. It's simple, clean, easy to use and easy to see. I do not need nor do I want pet/friend/NPC interactions cluttering up my header. I do not want my trades and PMs at the bottom of the screen where I will never ******** see them unless by accident.

Not to mention the LAST time the header and all got updated, it was for ZOMFGNEWFEATURESSHINYOOOOOOOO! that have never been implemented. You guys do this EVERY ******** TIME the layout gets changed. Promise a bunch of new features that only the new layout can support and then..... never roll out the features. Try learning from the past and just let things be until those new features are ready to roll. And instead of springing something so ugly and unappealing on us, let a small group of normal users, not devs, not admin, test the hell out of it.

Above all, LISTEN to your users! The fact that this thread has exploded with DO NOT WANT should have clued you in that this is not a good idea.

To be quite honest . . . I'm not looking forward to it that much, Gaia.
I support your cash shop by buying items with paychecks I receive but . . .
I don't think this will be the alpha omega of Gaia by any means.
I think the floating footer thing is absolutely terrible.
It's already receiving negative feedback.

I like the new box for the gaia gold and cash count but shrinking my gaia screen by just even that much is going to annoy me. I dont like the floating footer.

To be frank, I hate the redesign.

Pros:
- I might be able to live with the footer. It's a blatant rip-off of Facebook, but it does usually work. I think you should watch out, however, because Facebook always loads slower for me than Gaia, and that footer often has errors. Plus, ads can easily start layering strangely, which is already a problem on other pages (e.g. item equip screen).
- The purple is nice.

Cons:
- The giant floating GAIA logo is better than the redesigned, awkwardly placed/sized one. There's no need for a purple background. It creates pointless empty space as well.
- Removing the map is sad. It's always nice to look up there and see where I am. I dunno why, but that's a fun and comforting aspect that makes Gaia seem more like a world and not just another website. However, I understand the page load issue.
- With taking away the map, there is a huge amount of blank space. I know there's pretty backgrounds, but that's where they belong. BEHIND things. With nothing there it just seems like there's no point to the header at all.
- What's up with the horrid blue color? There is no blue WHATSOEVER in the site layout. Why add it now? It does not look good. Stick with the tan/white or pick something else that actually flows.
- Refill is a silly word choice. It just makes no sense. I didn't like when they added the Need Cash/Gold button, but even that looks better and has more meaning than the new feature.
- The "Gaians Online" being where it is now placed ruins the alignment of the page. It looks awkward and is easily missed. Why one line of tiny text at the top of the page? I think it would work better being back up in the header.
- "Shortcuts" sounds more exciting and Gaia-like than "Quick Links." Any old site has links to pages and features. Gaia has shortcuts. See, much more fun.

Overall Opinion: Not good.
EDIT: I just realized what this redesign does.
It takes away Gaia's beloved personality and creates something that distances Gaians from the site.

If we just replaced that neat little thing with where the shortcuts/PMS/IM/gold/need gold
button is now, I think that'd be a nice update. Only about 10% of Gaia users actually
LIKE the header. Not a good idea to upset 90% of the users making you money, especially
after the 'Free Cash' fiasco. You best forget this new footer, or at least make it
and optional feature, and if you choose to not use it, we get the normal cute
little bubbles by our avatars telling you if you have messages/comments/trades etc.

I think the bubbles are cute and I'd hate to see them go.

I actually like the footer idea. =)

It'll take some getting used to, and I'll miss the speech bubble for everything (instead of just announcements), but it's good with me. It's just design. Even if no one likes it they'll at least get used to it.
