Welcome to Gaia! ::

    I am not enjoying this floating footer business.

    I understand your hopes on trying to make everything 'minimalist', but giving us a floating footer is just like having all of Gaia's users stick another toolbar on their browser which just makes our viewing window even smaller.

    I have never heard of anyone having trouble seeing their notifications in the word bubbles in the header. More so, I haven't ever heard of anyone wanting a new layout at all.

    I like having all the important stuff up in the top. I don't want to have to look at every corner of my screen to know how I'm doing and if I've gotten any updates. Please don't give us this footer.

    I'm going to be sad to see the map to go. It was like a nod to what Gaia used to be; how we once had to search all over the bloody thing to find our shop of choice. Now, the map is practically useless. If you're going to get rid of it in the header, at least have it play a big part in a future event or something of the sort. I'd really hate to see it disappear forever. D:
I actually just logged into Facebook (which I don't do very frequently) just because I didn't remember it having such a thing.

Turns out that I'd assumed that thing at the bottom was some kind of obnoxious banner ad and I never clicked it rofl

It's obnoxious, though, the way it scrolls with you all the time. I really, really hope it doesn't get implemented here, or at least if it does that it's optional. I don't want it sitting on every page I go to.
Oh god, Gaia. gonk

I DO NOT WANT THAT FLOATING FOOTER THING.
I want my messages, comments, etc. IN MY BUBBLE NEAR MY AVATAR.

If you do go ahead with the floating footer, can you at least give us the option to turn it off and keep everything up at the header?

I also really dislike the way these two parts look:
User ImageUser Image

They look really really tacky.
neutral

Also, I really enjoy the map up at the top. I reminded me that Gaia was a world of it's own. Not just another website.
It'd be nice to keep it. But if you really can't, I'm going to be really sad to see it go. D;

And what about telling us how how many gaians are online at the time?
I know it's not a big thing, but again, it makes Gaia feel more than just another website. It helps me feel connected to the rest of the community.

I tend to notice my bubble first when I log in. The change would be less convenient for me.

you can do all you want , as long as you give us the option to use it or not (to turn off or on ) . then you will see if it is even necessary , all in all it just plain unnecessary change . and like many i do not like the thing in bottom or things that float , is not convenient or practical .

Phaniee: Agreed. I don't like how the staff thinks that everything on Gaia has to have that "Less is more" feeling, especially when it alreaady HAS that feeling in the first place. How many people actually really think that the notifications we get through the speech bubble takes too much space?

It NEVER took up too much space.

It filled up all the EMPTY space that's already up there. I don't want MORE empty space!

Why fix something that is so loved and not broken?

i love the bubbles for everything pms, notes, friend requests, comments, sale notes and the Announcements. and i'll be really sad if you made them Announcements only, seeing that it the less useful item to me personally for the bubbles. every time i see the bubble pop up its a little pop of joy and i WENT to see what is in the bubble. if it was Announcement only it will kill that joy and i will just stop looking at it.

the footer isn't as fun, cute, or as visually pleasing as the bubbles.

why not put your time, energy and money where it is need. like fixing glitches in games.like no bait, no tokens. and other glitches. or how about a Scam Warning Quiz Quest when you first sign up and warn new users about common scams. that will be useful.

Exactly! Dx I don't get it, there's really no need to change anything. It goes with the rest of of the site. Usually I'm all for changes, but I've never felt so against a change on Gaia like this before. Especially when it's SO not needed in the first place.

I only speak for myself in this respect, but even when I had dial-up the map never affected the time the page loaded. But I won't be all up in arms if it is gotten rid of, just...I won't be smiling about.
Personally, I don't altogether dislike the idea of a floating footer. I understand what you are trying to go for. And I can see how it might be more convenient. However, judging from the general response, I'm thinking that having an option to either have floating on or off might be a good idea.

Although, I'm personally prefer to just take the footer you're suggesting, and put it stationary at the top of the page. I almost never use the links at the bottom of the page.

Also, in all honesty, I miss our old logo. The current one isn't bad. And I get that the new one would match the new sleek and minimalistic style you're going for, but it also comes off as uninviting and cold. Even if it doesn't fit the simple and clean new layout, I think it would be nice if you had a warmer logo like we used to. Something that doesn't just say "this is Gaia online" but "welcome to Gaia online".

I do not like this one bit. The floating footer especially. I think it's a horrible idea, and it will definitely make me less inclined to be here.

But how I feel about it personally doesn't mean anything right now.

You asked our opinions, and it's very VERY obvious that the masses have spoken. There's not just a tiny bit of dislike towards it, there's a massive amount. I read through all the posts, and there is no question that the large majority of the people who have given their opinion dislike the idea of the floating footer. So, if you go along with it anyways, what does that say?

It will say, very simply, that you don't care. That you don't actually care what the community wants. Even the Moderators that have posted have been against it. If you go along with it, that will tell us you don't care what we want. That would not be a good message to give your community.

So please, make the right choice, and listen to what your community actually wants.

I don't like this "footer" idea. Many of the pages on Gaia can get pretty long, especially in guilds, clans, journals, and the forums. Scrolling all the way down to the bottom of a page just to see if I have a new PM seems very inconvenient and will probably be very annoying.

Please Gaia, keep the bubbles. If you can't, at least have this floating "footer" thing be closer to the top of the page so we can actually SEE it while browsing the forums or doing other activities that result in long pages.

If you have ever been to MySpace or Facebook, you would know this is a floating footer. No matter where you are on the page, you will see this footer on the bottom of the screen.

I opened up myspace and facebook, didnt scroll to the bottom of the page, just opened up the page, and here is what I see at the bottom of my page:
User Image
User Image

It moves as you move.
Basically, you will ALWAYS see it.

I find it to be rather annoying.
I don't post very often, but I feel I must agree with the furious, uproaring majority. NO FLOATING FOOTER!! It slows the page down (on my computer) and it's just sooooooooo annoying.. If you're going to do it regardless of public opinion, then at least give an option to not have it (or hide it), so that the user can decide.

I feel soooo strongly about this. I really don't want a floating footer.. *sigh* everyone is right, there are so many other aspects of the site that need fixing.. why bother with this?

p.s. Don't take away our bubbles! crying

I'm usually for changes too, but I really dislike this change D;

And the map never affected my loading time, if anything, all these flash based features they have been implementing are what are slowing the loading time for me.
And I'm sure this footer will make it slow even MORE for me, because I know it slows it down on Myspace for me.

i don't want the footer. i hate the footer with a passion. i already am using a small screened computer and really all the footer would do is make me more annoyed. it is one reason why i do not go to facebook much at all. i think a footer is a bad idea and i really don't want to look at the bottom of the page to see if i have messages or use it to look at who all is online. i rather go to the my gaia page for that stuff. and keep the bubble in the header next to your avi. i like seeing the "1 private message" pop up there instead of having to search the whole page for that icon. seriously, there is nothing wrong with the bubble. confused
