We shouldn't get cash when we start. Cash helps run Gaia, and if they gave it away for free, they would lose money.

But you can't trade cash to other accounts. So getting ride of the 25 freebie didn't hurt Gaia, nor did it help Gaia.

When Gaia first started the cash thing, they gave out 25 cash to users. This was with the intent of saying "HEY LOOK! You can get cool, exclusive stuff from this one store with this new kind of currency!" And for a lot of people, I assume it worked to make them buy more cash.

Giving out a LITTLE free cash upon joining, like 25--enough for one fish or one small cash item--would likely encourage new users to buy cash because "OMG I WANT THE EXPENSIVE ONES TOO!" sort of thing.

But yeah, giving out 25 cents doesn't seem like a lot until you realize just how many users are on this site.

But they DO now, if you finish the starter quest, which isn't that hard.


In actuality they give MORE stuff than they used to, to starting members.

You used to start naked, after all. Lol
And there wasn't so many cheap items for 1g in stores, back then.

I didn't receive any Gaia Cash when I joined, but in my opinion, it might not hurt them to give out just a little when you join...but no more than 25.
