Alright, Gaia admins and mods, while this may be going against your basic moral fiber, this is something everyone on this site needs to think about.
We all remember the story of Neopets. Originally founded in 1999 by Adam Powell and Donna Williams, it was bought by a Scientologist businessman named Doug Dohring in 2000 and quickly became a flaming cesspool of immersive advertising. About half of the items were related in some way to a real-life brand (Blue Baby-Bottle Pops, anyone?) and about 45% of the accounts were frozen for no good reason. Viacom (owners of Nickelodeon, MTV, and Comedy Central) purchased Neopets in June 2006, although it is still just as sucky.
If there's one thing I'm worried about right now, it's that Gaia will become another Neopets. As many of you have noticed, many older members are leaving due to trolling and other causes. In a forum poll I recently did, 84% of Gaians said that they were extremely unhappy with the Mimzy quest.
Saving Gaia from the clutches of the evil vulture known as capitalism can be done one, and ONLY one way.
Boycotting Mimzy.
Yes, you heard me right, folks. And not just on Gaia, in real life as well. Don't go see the Mimzy movie, so that in actuality, the Mimzy ads will actually harm New Line Cinema's budget. So DON'T GET A MIMZY ITEM, and DON'T GO SEE THE MIMZY MOVIE.
Eventually, Gaia will drop the movie-related quests entirely due to negative reaction and we will regain the Gaia we once knew and loved.
Please, for Gaia's sake.
