The Rules

Everyone

1.) Above all, follow Gaia Online's Terms of Service. Please, it doesn't do anybody any good if you get in trouble.

2.) Please be literate. In a game where the phrasing of hints is very significant, we need to be able to understand what is being said. It doesn't help anybody if you say something incorrectly and make the mystery impossible to solve. Typos are fine as long as they don't interfere with the solution.

3.) Kinzo is dead at the start of all games.

4.) There are exactly 17 people on the island.

5.) Natsuhi is not the culprit.

6.) The Knox and Van Dine rules will not be acknowledged in these mysteries.

7.) Unconfirmed Umineko theories have no basis here unless the Game Master wills it. Spoilers up to (and including) Episode 6 may be used, but for the purposes of the roleplay, assume Shkanon to be false unless the Game Master uses it as part of the solution.

8.) The detective and the Game Master may only make one post at a time once the game begins. Multiple characters may act per post, but if any of the players wants to have a character do something, he/she must wait for the opposite side to act. The Watson and impartial judge players may interject at any time, however, because their actions do not disrupt the progression of the game.

The Witch Side (Game Master)

1.) The culprit must be one of the 17 people on the island, but never the detective. This is to keep the game fair.

2.) Sufficient foreshadowing and hints to the solution must be provided to the detective. The Game Master should try to conceal the solution as much as possible, but this shall be a "fair mystery."

3.) If the detective is able to solve all of the mysteries correctly, the Game Master loses.

4.) If the Game Master creates a logic error, then the game is over and the detective wins.

5.) The Game Master controls all of the characters except for the detective's pieces, the Watson character, and the impartial judge.

6.) The Game Master must provide a copy of the entire solution to the impartial judge player. The impartial judge must make sure that the Game Master's Red Truths do not contradict any aspect of his/her solution.

The Human Side (Detective)

1.) The detective may not wander into a fantasy scene. Also, he/she must follow all instructions or restrictions given by the Game Master.

2.) The "Watson" character may not use his/her own colored truths. His/her job is to assist the detective, not alter the mystery. He/she may, however, repeat truths given by the Game Master.

3.) The detective must provide a feasible explanation to each mystery given by the Game Master. The solution does not have to be correct, per se, but it must fit the parameters of all of the Red Truths unless otherwise stated by the Game Master. If the detective cannot explain any of the mysteries without magic, then he/she loses.

4.) The detective is the main character.

5.) The detective has a Gameboard piece character and a meta-character. He/she may have both characters acting per post if he/she likes.

6.) The detective may not begin a "Meta-Battle" or use any blue truths until the Game Master has finished creating the particular mystery. Please wait for the Game Master to finish the murders he/she is working on before you start asking questions.

BATTLER:

Battler stood alone in a small room. It was utterly devoid of other life. There sat two chairs, facing each other, and a single table between them. It looked like a couple was preparing for a tea party: on the table was a tea set, some cups, and a platter of stale cookies. Ronove had left them there for Battler a while ago. How long has it been? "Beatrice was certainly taking her time with this one," he thought. "It had better be a good mystery. I'm starting to grow impatient."

The Sorcerer began pacing around the room. Man, he thought. "Who would have thought that it would reach the point where I actually want to hear this gruesome tragedy again? It's almost inexplicable," he mumbled. "I wonder if Virgilia or Ronove will come and watch. Perhaps Ange... 'Gretel', as she called herself. As long as it's not those nosy Travelers, then I don't mind."

Three things cannot be long hidden..

Ange appeared in a far corner of the room, quietly watching Battler pacing. She, too, wondered when Beatrice would begin the mystery. She crossed her arms, quickly growing impatient. She tapped her right foot for a few moments before speaking.
"Battler," she said quietly. "Are you prepared for this game?" She was certain that Beatrice was taking her sweet time for two reasons: One, to get to Battler, and Two, to be sure that her mystery was quite perfect and difficult to solve. She wished Battler the best of luck with the mystery.

BEATRICE: The Endless Witch

Suddenly, a single gold butterfly flutters from the darkness over to the chair opposite Battler. It hovers in the air for a moment, and then dissipates.

...

The room fades to darkness, its unnatural light dimming.

...

A few gold butterflies appear, hovering near the ground. They begin to fly around, more and more of them, until a tornado of gold engulfs the chair completely.

Just as the tornado reaches its peak, it explodes, reveling Beatrice sitting comfortably in the chair.
"Are you read to play, Baaattttleeeerrrr?"

BATTLER:

"Nice of you to join us, Ange," Battler began. He turned to Beatrice. "So, you're finally ready. Took you long enough. Yeah, I'm all set. Let's go."

Turning to face Ange: "Hmmmph, another intruder to the game. Well, speak you mind now, because once I start, I will allow no interruptions until I have woven my mystery."

Natsuhi could be seen sitting the the dim study, holding her head and gently weeping.

Ange thought for a moment before speaking. Beatrice wasn't her favorite person in the world, but she tried not to think about it so she could tell Battler what she needed to.
"Battler...good luck with all of this..." Ange said. "Just remember, think through everything. I'm counting on you..." She clenched her hand, thinking about Beatrice again. "You'll win, I'm sure of it! You'd better win..." She turned to Beatrice. "That's all I have to say for now," she said.

Turning to face Battler: "Well then, I shall begin. I will warn you, this game is different. We start our story a little bit before your piece has arrived at the island."

The phone rings. Wiping tears from her face, Natsuhi answers.
“It’s Genji, Madam.”

“Ah, Genji, what is it?”

“I have received a phone call from outside the mansion, wishing to speak with you.”

“Who is it?”

“I do not know, they refused to name themselves.”

“How odd, fine, connect them to me.”

“Hello, MOTHER.”

An androgynous voice comes from the phone.

“Wah, what did you say?”

“You know who this is. I have returned from the hell you cast me in, mortally wounded with hate.”

“T-t-this is a bad joke, I am hanging up!”

“Wait. You wouldn’t want people to know of your sin from 19 years ago, would you? How would people feel, if they knew what a monster you are?”

“How…how do you know about tha-that..?”

“Like I said, MOTHER, I have returned from hell to drive you into the deepest pit of despair, for it is the only balm for my pain. I will be in touch.”

“Guh…why me…all I ever wanted was to be a good wife…"

BATTLER:

"Not this again," Battler muttered. "Oh well, whatever. Since I know the culprit is one of the seventeen on the island, this scene does not conern me."
The phone call was not in the bounds of the gameboard. Thus, it was not necessary to provide an explanation for this event. However, Battler paid attention anyway. Perhaps it would provide a few hints that would help later on.

The boat has finally landed on Rokkenjima. The normally lively harbor seems almost dead, utterly devoid of its usual boisterous seagulls. The boat arrived through choppy seas, much to Battlers displeasure, which acted as entertainment for the otherwise bored Maria. The boat had contained almost the entire family quite well. George, Hideyoshi, and Eva all sat together in the back, while Maria and Rosa had spent the entire trip on the deck. Rudolph and Kyrie spent most of the trip talking business at the aft of the boat, completely ignoring Battlers plight at the fore.

When the boat landed, Genji was there to greet everyone, accompanied by Jessica.

Battler Ushiromiya:

Battler Ushiromiya quickly left the ship upon its arrival to Rokkenjima. "Thank God that ride's over," Battler exclaimed. "Whoa, look at Jessica!" He stared at her chest. "Heh, you're grown quite a bit since my last visit here..."
Hopefully everyone recognizes me... I probably look very different from when I was here six years ago. I'm not the scrawny twerp I was back then, hehe, thanks to those totally reputable performance-enhancing drugs I took...
"And Genji! Long time no see!" Battler added. "I trust you've been taking care of grandfather, ihihihi! Speaking of which, where's the old geezer? Is he too busy to say hi?"

Jessica blushes a little and gives Battler a bit of a hard look. She says "And I see that you have grown into a bit of a pervert, haven't you? Oh, wait, you were one back then too. Ahahahah <See you soon>!"

Genji interjects. "The Master is inside his study. Allow me to carry your bags." As he says this, Kumasawa walks down the path to the harbor.

"Ah, Welcome everyone. I was just preparing some mackerel for your arrival. Here, let me take some of your bags Rosa, Maria." says Kumasawa

Slowly, the weary family began to trudge up the path to the rose garden.
